There is a ton of gaming laptops flooding the market these days. However, only few actually get me excited with their gilt-edged specifications. The MSI GS65 Stealth Thin seems to be one of the most interesting gaming laptop, or even laptop in general, that I know about. From the name of this device, you should already start to think so much of it. Let’s dive in to know more about this wonderful piece of art and technology.
Design
It is needless to reiterate that the GS65 is one of the thinnest gaming laptops around. This laptop weighs a paltry 4.1 pounds and is only 0.7 inches thin. This laptop is the perfect result of the inter-breeding between art and technology.
We all know of the “bezel-less” craze in the smartphone world, but what about the laptop universe. MSI’s GS65 boasts a never-before-seen screen-to-body ratio of 82% with 4.9 mm side bezels. Just to put this into perspective, the size of this laptop is identical to a typical 14-inch laptop.
This ultraportable laptop uses a gold and black colour combination to produce a stylish and premium beauty. At the top of the lid is golden dragon logo of MSI.
You don’t need to physically see this device to fall in love with it; the image renders are quite enough for that.
Display
When it comes to high-end gaming, the refresh rate of the display is a really important factor to consider. The refresh rate is simply the number of times a screen updates a particular image in one second. While the majority of games are good with monitors that have refresh rates of 60Hz or [rarely] 120Hz, the most graphical intensive games need displays with higher refresh rates for the smoothest gaming experience. Enter the 144Hz displays.
The MSI GS65 is equipped with a 15.6-inch 144Hz display. However, it’s disappointing that the display is only a 1080p one, where I’d have loved a 4K display. Nevertheless, the screen still delivers with excellent color reproduction and reduced screen tearing (thanks to the high refresh rate).
Keyboard and Touchpad
Everything about the GS65 Stealth Thin is just so exciting; including the keyboard. With each key having its own individual backlighting, MSI in collaboration with SteelSeries allows you to create custom color schemes for each key. Exciting, isn’t it?
Moreover, despite the slim nature of this laptop, the keys on the MSI GS65 are not so disappointing. Since this laptop is a really compact one, the number panel has been omitted for lack of space.
Performance
First, first, first! Almost everything used on this laptop is a first.
An enhanced 8th gen Intel Core i7-8750H CPU with six cores is running the show on the Stealth Thin laptop. This is complemented by another first, the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU (with 8GB of VRAM). This combination means that you get the most advanced hardware combo for a laptop and invariably translating to one of the best gaming experiences ever.
Furthermore, an improved and faster DDR4-2400 16GB RAM chip is used over the old DDR3-1600 family. This means that you’ll get faster writing and reading speeds on this device.
In addition, the storage capacity for the MSI GS65 is 512GB of SSD.
Since this is a really powerful system, it needs an efficient cooling system; the Cooler Boost Trinity is in charge here. This comprises of three enhanced Whirlwind Blade fans and four heat pipes to ensure that the GS65 doesn’t overheat.
Battery Life
Moving on, this device just has a lot of sweet spots. The slimness of the MSI GS65 doesn’t mean that you’ll have to compromise on battery life as the new battery design affords you an average of up to 8 hours.
Connectivity Options
Being thin doesn’t mean that you should not have space for the essentials. The Stealth Thin laptop is evidence of this fact with the many ports that it packs. There is a multi-purpose USB type-C port with Thunderbolt 3 for faster data transfers and charging times. Also, you’ll find three USB 3.1 ports spread on either side of the laptop, a mini DisplayPort, an HDMI port, headphone jack, microphone jack, Ethernet port, and finally the power jack.

The MSI GS65 Stealth Thin is a powerful gaming laptop by a lot of standards. This means that the price point will also be a powerful one for the complete package. Starting at about $2000, this wonderful laptop could be yours.
