Most of the movies and TV shows on Netflix are in English. The streaming service also allows you to watch several good movies and TV series in foreign languages. However, many users find it difficult to understand English on Netflix due to the different diction and pronunciation of artists from different countries. This is where subtitles save the day. Everything is fine until Netflix subtitles disappear or work on your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. This can be very frustrating because you can’t keep watching that great show, movie, or documentary. Here are some simple and effective solutions that will help you bring subtitles back to the bottom of the screen.
1. Settings
Have you checked the settings of the content you are viewing? If not, start there and check if the subtitle option is checked. Even if it’s checked, uncheck it and select it again. This could restart everything. Play any video and tap Audio & Subtitles at the bottom of the screen.
You’ll see an option to turn it off or play it in English or other available languages if any.

2. Appearance of subtitles
Missing a part of the subtitle on Netflix? You can easily change the font size and type to solve this problem. Tap More, Settings, and select Accounts. Tap Subtitle Appearance. These steps are for Android, but you can do the same on any platform.

3. Different platform, browser?
Are you watching Netflix on your smartphone? Maybe on your favorite Chrome browser? I recommend that you try a different platform like a Windows 10 or macOS app or a different browser like Firefox, Brave, or Opera.
If Netflix subtitles work on another browser or platform, then there is something wrong with the platform or browser you are using. Read on to find out what you can do to fix the error. Until the error is resolved, keep looking on another platform.
It is also possible that the show or movie you are trying to watch on Netflix is no longer available. Of course, you can try looking for it on some other streaming service.
4. Browser extension
There are two things we’ll cover here, so don’t skip this point quickly. The first is an incompatible add-on or extension. Open Netflix in Incognito mode and check if Netflix subtitles are still not showing. If not, you need to disable all extensions and then re-enable them one at a time to find the culprit.
The second is a Chrome extension called NflxMultiSubs, which will add a second subtitle in your chosen language. It supports Russian and Japanese, among others. It can solve the problem of subtitles not working and add one in your native language.
5. Sign out, sign in
This is one of the tricks that often work with different services. Then log out and log in again. This may work to remove a glitch or temporary bug, which may be causing the missing subtitles error.
6. Update, restart, try again
Update the Netflix app on your device. Whether it’s Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS, download the latest version of the app. If you are using a browser, check for browser updates. 7. Clear cache and data files
Whether you are using an app or a browser, clearing the cache and temporary data can help resolve many errors, including missing or broken Netflix subtitles.
In Android, open Settings and go to the app list and find Netflix.
Tap Clear data at the bottom of the screen and select Clear all data here.
You will need to log into your Netflix account again, so make sure you have the password. Check the subtitle error again. Follow these steps to clear the Chrome browser cache.
