No one ever changes their phone every year! Why?

Truth be told, almost nobody changes smartphones every year, especially in a country like ours where the average salary is around € 900. Even so, it is undeniable that in these times, users remain attached to their ‘old machines’ longer than would be normal.

In fact, more and more users are refusing to give 1000 or more euros for a high-end device, when they can get their hands on one of the excellent mid-range devices launched recently.

In short, the thing is really very simple … It is increasingly apparent that spending large amounts of money on a new, state-of-the-art smartphone does not make any sense. But do you know why?

(Special) No one ever changes their phone every year! Why?

Therefore, over the past few years, users have begun to realize that in the vast majority of their use cases, it ended up not making sense to change phones so often. Or that it is simply no longer advantageous to switch to high-end mobile phones, especially when their price already exceeds (and well) 1000 €. After all, the Note 20 Ultra costs over € 1400, while the iPhone 11 Pro Max runs at € 1279.

Imagine the following case, in the past you bought the Galaxy S10 + last year, a device that promised a futuristic design, and an unrivaled performance. So far so good… But now you want to switch to the S20 Ultra or Note 20 Ultra. Both devices are significantly more expensive, but at the end of the day, they have a very similar design, as well as a very similar ‘real’ performance, even in the photos.

Very briefly, the world of smartphones is so ‘mature’ that it is not easy to point to a mobile phone with a really innovative feature.

Where’s the next fingerprint? Or the next OLED screen? Differences from generation to generation are only iterative, so consumers no longer feel like putting their money on the table.

Of course, foldable smartphones threaten to kick this table, and 5G has also put some consumers interested in the news. Still, it is undeniable that things are even more still.

After all, the vast majority of users just want a mobile phone to go to social networks, make calls and send messages … And more friends, any smartphone of 200 ~ 300 € does this with great quality, at the same time that they already bring an excellent build quality, as well as high-resolution OLED screens and even good camera setups at the rear.
