This is exactly the case with one of the most common iPhone problems today- the “refusal” of the phone to ring. Not only is it frustrating when it happens, but it can also potentially ruin a business, make you miss a meeting, or lose an important call in general.
If this happened to you, don’t worry; you are in the right place. This article explains exactly what you need to do to solve this common iPhone problem.
VERIFICATION OF THE OVERVIEW
Before moving on to more challenging solutions, the obvious must be removed. What we mean by “obvious” in this case is to check if your iPhone has been put into silent mode. It goes without saying that your iPhone will not be able to ring if the Silent switch on its side has not been set to ring.
In case your iPhone’s silent switch has been moved to the screen, your iPhone’s sound is activated. If the same switch that was pressed towards the back of your iPhone, it means that the silent mode is activated. In that case, you will also notice a small strip (usually orange) located next to the mentioned switch.
Another sign that your iPhone is in silent mode is the speaker icon. If you see the speaker icon on the display of your iPhone, it means the audio is muted.
Of course, the solution is quite simple. All you need to do to disable the silent mode of your iPhone and enable audio on your device is to press the Volume Up button. This button is located on the side of the phone.
Alternatively, you can increase the volume of your iPhone through its settings. This method is quite useful if the volume control buttons on your iPhone do not work. In this case, all you have to do is this:
- Touch in the Settings of your iPhone.
- Find the Ringtone and Alerts section.
- Drag the slider under Ringtone and Alerts. This will increase the volume of your iPhone upwards (or down, depending on the direction you are slipping).
You will find the Change with buttons function in the same section Ringtone and Alerts, right below the previously mentioned cursor. If this feature is disabled, you will not be able to adjust the sound volume through the buttons on the side of your iPhone. Just tap the function to enable it. You will know that the function has been enabled when the toggle switch turns green.
DISCONNECT THE NON-DISTURBING FUNCTION
The Do Not Disturb feature is very useful in many situations. You could do an important job and you wouldn’t want anyone to make you lose concentration- the Do Not Disturb feature guarantees that peace.
If enabled, this feature disables alerts, notifications, and calls on your iPhone. Therefore, the reason your iPhone does not ring could be because the Do Not Disturb feature was activated by accident.
The best way to know if this feature has been enabled is to check the top right corner of the screen. If the option Do not disturb is enabled, you will notice there a small half-moon icon.
There are some ways to disable this feature on the iPhone. Let’s take a look at all of them.
Method 1:
Since the release of the iPhone 7, it has been very easy to deactivate this function. All you need to do is this:
- Swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone display to open the Control Center.
- Next, tap the half-moon icon to turn off the Do Not Disturb feature.
Method 2:
The second method requires going through the settings of your iPhone. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open your iPhone settings.
- Touch the Do Not Disturb feature.
- Touch the switch in the Manual section. You will know that the switch has been deactivated if it turns gray.
Method 3:
The third method to deactivate “Do not disturb” is probably the most interesting. Moreover, it is quite simple to perform. This method requires the use of Siri.
To activate Siri, all you have to do is hold down the Home button on your iPhone. Once the Siri interface is open, say “Disable Do Not Disturb”. Make sure you say every word loud and clear so that Siri can recognize your command.
If you did it correctly, Siri will deactivate this function and respond with “Okay, I have deactivated do not disturb”.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY IPHONE CONTINUES NOT TO RING?
If you have tried the methods mentioned above and your iPhone still does not ring, there is another thing you can try.
It often happens that smartphones get stuck in ways they shouldn’t be. In this case, your iPhone may be locked in Headset mode. In other words, your iPhone thinks your headphones are still connected, even if they are not.
To check if your phone is locked in Headset mode, simply press the Volume up button and check the phone display. If you notice that the headphone volume is loaded on the screen, it means that your iPhone is actually locked in headphone mode.
To solve this problem, take a flashlight and check the charging port of your iPhone. If you notice that something is stuck in the charging port, make sure to remove it carefully.
NEVER MISS A CALL
If you have tried all these methods and none of them worked for you, you should take your iPhone to a professional. This is because there may be something wrong with your iPhone’s hardware.
