OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – Affordable smartphones with Snapdragon 845 chipset. Affordability is something most smartphone users always consider before making a choice. Nobody wants to spend his entire monthly salary on a smartphone. But most times, smartphone users worry if they could actually get good specs on these so-called affordable devices. Well, with the help of competition we are now seeing some good device with premium specs being sold for less than $700.

In this category of smartphones, we have the Huawei Honor 10, the OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. These three smartphones are leading the segment although they should be more out there. For this article, we would be looking into the OnePlus 6 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. So in case you’re looking for an affordable Chinese flagship, you need to read this article.

OnePlus really tried in making the OnePlus 6 with a premium design. They ditched the aluminum back found on the OnePlus 5T for an all-glass body design. While the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S features a sophisticated ceramic back and front glass. The ceramic back is just too pretty to ignore and gives the Mi Mix 2S an edge in design over the OnePlus 6. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is however heavy, which might be a turn-off to some users. The Mi Mix 2S weighs 191 grams and measures 150.9 x 74.9 x 8.1 mm in dimensions. While the OnePlus 6 is lighter, weighing just 177 grams and measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.8 mm.

On the back of the OnePlus 6 and Mi Mix 2S is a dual rear camera with a fingerprint sensor. The dual rear camera of the Mi Mix 2S is in a vertical position at the top left. While the one of the OnePlus 6 is also in a vertical position but at the top center. They are not water/dust resistance, which would have been cool if they were. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S comes in two simple Black and White body colors. While the OnePlus 6 has two different black variants called Midnight Black and Mirror Black. Then they also have the Silk White body color.

OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – The Display

The OnePlus 6’s Optic AMOLED touchscreen gives it the edge over the Mi Mix 2S that features an IPS LCD touchscreen. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S features a tri-bezel-less 18:9 aspect ratio display, with no top bezel whatsoever. The front camera of the Mi Mix 2S is at the bottom bezel, which is weird to me though. The OnePlus 6 features a 19:9 aspect ratio notch display.

The 5.99 inch Mi Mix 2S screen stretches up to 81.9% screen-to-body ratio. While the display has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels with 403 PPI density. The Mi Mix 2S display is protected by Corning gorilla glass 4. While that of the OnePlus 6 is protected by Corning gorilla glass 5. The 6.28-inch screen of the OnePlus 6 stretches up to 83.8% screen-to-body. On the display, is a 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution with a PPI density.

OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – The Camera

According to DxOMark, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is among the top 10 best camera smartphones right now. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is equipped with a primary 12MP f/1.8 aperture sensor combined with a secondary 12MP f/2.4 aperture sensor. While the front camera of the Mi Mix 2S features a 5MP f/2.0 sensor. The OnePlus 6 is equipped with a 16MP primary and 20MP secondary sensors and f/1.7 aperture on each sensor. While the front camera is equipped with a 16MP f/2.0 sensor. The 12MP primary sensor of the Mi Mix 2S and 16MP primary sensor of the OnePlus 6 features Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). And they’re capable of shooting 4K resolution videos.

OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – Hardware and Software

The OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. And Adreno 630 graphics processing unit for graphics. Both phones should be able to perform tasks faster and better. They both run on Android 8.0 Oreo with their own customization skin on top. The MiUI 9.5 skin runs on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S while the Oxygen OS 5.1.1 skin runs on the OnePlus 6.

No microSD card slot for both phones, which is why they both offer an 8GB memory with 256GB internal storage. The 256GB internal storage will be ideal to save your 4K resolution videos. Aside from their bigger versions, the OnePlus 6 also has a version with 6GB memory and 64GB storage. While the Mi Mix 2S has a 6GB memory with 128GB or 64GB internal storage.

OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – The Battery

There isn’t much difference in the battery capacity of the OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. The Mi Mix 2S packs a non-removable Li-lon 3400 mAh battery, which is slightly better than the non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery found in the OnePlus 6. The fast battery charging version supported by the Mi Mix 2S is faster to that of the OnePlus 6. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S supports Qi wireless charging while the OnePlus 6 doesn’t.

OnePlus 6 VS Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – The Price

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is sold for about $600 (N210,000) while the OnePlus 6 is sold for around $613 (N214,550). The similarities between these two smartphones is overwhelming. The major difference will be the custom user interface, design and screen technology. Tough one to choose but as a Xiaomi fan, I would go with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.
