Panasonic Toughbook P-01K Specs Review, No Selfie camera, Single SIM, Stringent Performance

Everyone loves to take selfies! Not so for anyone who buys a Panasonic Toughbook P-01K. This is a new smartphone release from Panasonic and it is the latest smartphone out there without a selfie camera. Why this device comes out this way isn’t known.

The Panasonic Toughbook P-01K comes as an affordable rugged smartphone that selfie mongers will hate. It is however, a water-proof smartphone.  However, it has a strong body build which some of us will admire. Let’s see the main attractions in this smartphone as we look at design, display, camera, performance, and other specifications.

Design and Display of Panasonic Toughbook P-01K

The primary design type is polycarbonate material. The device comes in 75 x 154 x 13.1 mm dimensions and it weighs 230 grams. It is water resistant, IP68 certified. Furthermore, it comes in gray, and green colors.

Display type is HD IPS LCD capacitive touch screen. Similarly, the screen size is 5 inches, while the pixels resolution is 720 x 1280 of 16 million colors. Pixel density is 294 ppi, screen to body ratio is 59.86 percent, and aspect ratio is 16:9. Features include multi-touch, scratch resistant, Dragontrail Pro glass. Finally, as far as the display is concerned, it is significant to say that the device has no secondary display.

Camera Features

There’s only a single camera in this device. It is the one and only one situated at the rear of the Panasonic Toughbook P-01K. this single camera is stringent 8 MP shooter which offers no high-end quality photos or images to the user. The video performance is 1080p@30fps and it offers FHD recording.

Features on the camera include f/1.9 aperture, LED flash, auto focus, continuous shooting, digital zoom, exposure compensation, HDR, panorama, scene mode, self-timer, touch to focus, and more.

Hardware and Software

Panasonic Toughbook P-01K runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system which we believe will upgrade to the latest Android soon enough. The user interface is modified. Furthermore, there is Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 SoC chipset with process technology 28nm.

CPU is Quad-core 1.3 GHz 4-Cores, GPU is Qualcomm Adreno 304 2-Cores. There is also a 64-bit architecture in this device.

Storage/Sensors of Panasonic Toughbook P-01K

In the Panasonic Toughbook P-01K, the 2GB of RAM cannot be expanded but the 16GB internal storage can be increased up to 128GB with the use of external microSD card. Sensors in the device are accelerometer, proximity, and ambient light. There is no fingerprint whatsoever on this device.

Network and Connectivity

Connectivity and internet networks are okay in the Panasonic Toughbook P-01K. There is 2G for GSM, 3G for WCDMA and HSDPA, and there’s also 4G LTE in the device. These networks work with only a single SIM that works within a single slot inside the smartphone.

Other common components of connectivity are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, hotspot, USB Type-C, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, HDMI, 3.5mm audio jack. However, there is no NFC or infrared port in the device.

Battery Life of Panasonic Toughbook P-01K

To power the device, a 3100 mAh Li-Po battery which is removable is provided for constant backup. This battery has no wireless charging or fast charging technologies. It means that the smartphone will take quite longer to charge from Zero to 100 percent. However, it should be able to provide needed power throughout a day.

Price and Availability

The starting price of Toughbook P-01K is put at $100 USD. But that is not set in stone. Prices may vary from store to store. The device is actually available for purchase because it has been released in the month of October, 2018.
