Data usage is one thing you may want to monitor very closely, especially if you are on a mobile data plan. It can be annoying if you don’t even open apps end up burning up all of your data. Fortunately, you can prevent this with a feature on your Android device.

Android provides a feature that allows you to easily keep tabs on how much data you use on your Android device. It even allows you to set up alerts to stop your device from using more data than the limit you have set. Another useful feature is being able to block certain apps from using data when they are not open. In this guide, we will show you how to set this up.

Before we proceed, you should note that this setting only works for mobile data. It will not prevent the app from using background data when you are connected via Wi-Fi.

And that’s pretty much it. From now on, the app will no longer be able to use mobile data in the background. It will be able to use the internet only when you use it. This is a handy tool, especially for apps that you do not use very often on your Android device. This way, they will not eat into your data plan.
