Samsung also presents Galaxy Watch – the new smartwatch comes in two variants

Not just Galaxy Note 9. Certainly, yesterday’s event in New York was dedicated above all to the launch of Samsung’s highly anticipated top-of-the-range, but the Seoul colossus took the opportunity to present another device – it’s about of the Samsung Galaxy Watch, which had already been nominated in recent days as many imagined a “double announcement” during the event in the Big Apple.

The company renamed its smartwatch series, abandoning the previously used Gear S brand. In view of the launch, rumors had indicated that the reason was due to the fact that Samsung had chosen to use Google’s Wear OS instead of its Tizen operating system. Not so – Samsung, in fact, has opted for a version of Wearable OS 4.0 based on Tizen. The Samsung Galaxy Watch was launched in two sizes – 42 mm and 46 mm, with different battery capacities, display size and resolution, and color options. At the event, the company also presented Wireless Charger Duo, which allows users to charge their Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Watch simultaneously.

“The new Galaxy Watch is designed for all lifestyles to meet consumer needs, such as longer battery life to stay connected longer and better tracking of wellness to help users maintain their goals” – these are the words spoken by DJ Koh, President and CEO of the IT & Mobile Communications division of Samsung Electronics, right after the launch of the device.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy Watch starts at $ 329.99 (about € 288) for the 42 mm variant, while the 46 mm variant starts at $ 349.99 (about € 305). It will go on sale in the United States on August 24th and August 31st in South Korea, while availability in other markets will start on September 14th. These prices are for the Bluetooth variants – the numbers of the LTE variants are not yet available.

The 46 mm Samsung Galaxy Watch is equipped with a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 × 360 pixels and is powered by a 472 mAh battery. The Galaxy Watch 42mm variant sports a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display with the same resolution of 360 × 360 pixels.

Both variants of Samsung Galaxy Watch include the Samsung Exynos 9110 dual-core (clocked at 1.15 GHz) and support wireless charging based on WPC.
