Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro – unboxing and first impressions

Samsung has launched the Galaxy J7 Pro for some time now, which is little more than just a larger version of the J5 Pro  – which we have already talked about here. Let’s look at these differences in a quick unboxing, so we can start our tests and find out if this device is worth it.

Despite the design almost identical to the one of its smaller brother, differentiating only by size, display, and weight, the interior of the J7 Pro already brings fewer similarities, repeating the chipset, but with other different specifications. Anyway, let’s take the device out of the box and know its features in a more detailed style.

Packaging and accessories

The J7 Pro box is already different from the smaller model. It has the design presented by Samsung at the launch of J5 Pro with J7 Neo in August – in white, with the drawings of the plastic artist Loro Verz.

In the case of J7 Pro, the yellow color predominates in the illustrations, which take the right and left sides, besides the giant J in front. Otherwise, the format is similar to the box we showed in the unboxing of J5 Pro.

The packaging opens at the top, and then we pull a second box, which has the device on top. A cardboard partition keeps the accessories well-guarded and protected. Which are as follows:

  • Manuals
  • USB cable for micro USB
  • In-ear earpiece with button to answer calls
  • Chip ejector
  • Wall adapter with 5V and 1.55A output

Design

The device has basically the same design as the J5 Pro, in which case it is only a larger version. It is 152.4 mm high and 74.7 wide. The thickness is 7.9 mm, and the weight is 181 grams.

The curved sides and the rounded shape of the device make the footprint very comfortable. The J7 Pro also has one-piece metal trim and 2.5D glass, as well as its smaller brother.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro

74.7 x 152.4 x 7.9 mm
5.5 inches – 1920×1080 px

Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro

71.3 x 146.2 x 8 mm
5.2 inches – 1280×720 px

In appearance, everything is like the J5 Pro – the power button and speaker on the right side; volume knobs and SIM and memory card drawers on the left; microphone and micro USB connectors and headphone jack on the bottom; and only the antenna lines at the top.

At the rear, we find a design different from everything that Samsung has brought so far. The camera sits in a rectangular space, with rounded corners, along with the LED flash. We still find the name of the brand and these antenna lines at the top and bottom, which give an interesting aspect to the design.

At the front, the front camera, the call speaker, light and proximity sensors and a front LED flash stand above the Samsung name at the top. At the bottom, we have the Home button, which is also a fingerprint reader, and the back and recent apps buttons.

Specifications and software

In the specs, we found a few more differences from J7 Pro to its smaller brother, such as the screen size, which has 5.5″ resolution, which is Full HD, and the amount of RAM and ROM.

  • 5.5 “Super AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution (1080p)
  • 1.6GHz Octa-core processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 64GB of internal storage (53.2 GB available for user)
  • 13MP main camera with f / 1.7 aperture with autofocus
  • 13MP selfies camera with f / 1.9 aperture and flash
  • Dimensions – 152.5 x 74.8 x 7.9 mm
  • Weight – 181g
  • 3,600mAh battery
  • Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung Experience 8.1 interface

As for software, J7 Pro comes with version 7.0 of Android Nougat running under the Samsung Experience 8.1 interface. Like J5 Pro and J7 Neo, this device allows you to duplicate some apps, like WhatsApp or Skype, to use two accounts without having to leave and log in.

Otherwise, it’s basically the same software we have on the Galaxy S8 , and exactly the same as the J5 Pro. Here we have options for blue light filter and Always on Display. If you want, you can adjust to access the notifications menu from any point on the home screen by sliding down. There, the app drawer only opens by sliding it up.

Camera

The J7 Pro photographic sensors are the same as it younger brother’s sensors. At the rear, a camera with a maximum resolution of 13MP, aperture f / 1.7 and digital stabilization, supporting full HD videos. At the front, the sensor also has 13MP maximum resolution, but the aperture is a bit smaller, f / 1.9. The video is also Full HD at 30 fps at most.

The camera application is the same, keeping the Samsung Experience 8.1 standard. On the right side, we find the shortcut to switch between the cameras, flash options and settings. On the left side, we have the capture button and to start capturing video, as well as the shortcut to the camera roll.

When sliding up or down, you can also switch between the front and back camera. Already sliding to the right, accesses the modes, which includes the professional in the rear camera. The filters are here as you slide to the left. Zoom can be given with a pinch movement on the screen or by tapping and holding capture button.

Questions and Suggestions

These are only the first impressions after taking the device out of the box. We have already started testing on a comparison of cameras with the Xperia XA1 Plus, Zenfone 4 and Moto G5S Plus.

J7 Pro is available in black and gold colors and currently can be found in the range of $ 280 to $ 300.
