The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro which was announced at IFA earlier this month alongside the Samsung Gear Sport is more of a fitness tracker than any other thing. It has virtually the same design as the previous Samsung Gear Fit 2 with only a slight modification made to its appearance. With the same curved screen, the curved display is not as angular like the one we saw on the other smartwatch and with a buckled band rather than using toggles.
The display has a nicely curved 1.5-inch screen and 216 x 432 AMOLED display with a beautifully designed rubber strap that holds the screen in place which is changeable to other 20mm bands if you want to. The Gear Fit 2 Pro is slightly heavier and larger at 34g in comparison to Gear Fit 2 which is just 28g. It also features two buttons on the side of the watch which allows you to navigate back while the other gives access to the menu or back to the home screen.
Also, the screen of the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 to keep it safe and from being damaged. However, the screen still offers the same level of quality with excellent contrast and top notch readability even in full light. The vertical display makes it pretty much easier to read and navigate easily with the good responsive screen. The Gear Fit 2 Pro designed to compete with the like of Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple has features close to smartwatches like 5 ATM water resistance for swimming, built-in GPS, offline music storage for Spotify and so on.
Integration of Spotify into the device allows users with Spotify premium subscription to transfer playlist right into the Gear Fit 2 Pro and stream Spotify tracks to a Bluetooth headset without having to use your phone at all. There is also an optical heart rate sensor at the back of the watch for per second pulse detection.
One of the upgrades worthy of mention is the 50m waterproofing unlike the Gear Fit 2 which was not waterproof. This allows you to swim with the watch and thanks to the collaboration with Speedo; you can use the Speedo app to track your movement while swimming.
Also included in the features is the ability of the watch to automatically detect the type of activity you are doing as well as when you started. The 4GB internal memory allows you to listen to music while going about your various exercises. Partnership with Under Armor offers the app services for one year to Gear Fit 2 Pro users for free and a whole lot of other training programs. The fitness tracker also allows you to use services like MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun, and Endomondo to track your calories, itineraries and share your performance with friends.
Gear Fit 2 Pro uses the new Tizen 3.0 operating system and a 200mAh battery lasting up to five days. It works with Android 4.4 and higher as well as iOS 9.0 and later. The Gear Fit 2 Pro is one of the best fitness trackers you lay your hands on, and it’s pretty easy to use with all its cool features. You can get this device at a relatively affordable price at $200.
