Design
I’m absolutely loving the new Xperia devices and it looks like Sony is still experimenting on where to place the dual-LED flash. The Aluminium Alloy overall unibody was covered in glass and glows in perfection. The dual-LED flash went from being at the top to the left side of the rear camera.
The fingerprint scanner is still at its usual position, same with the Xperia engraving. It’s quite bulky by the side, measuring 12.1 mm in thickness, which is weird for a “compact” device. Nevertheless, it weighs just 168g overall and available in only Black, White Silver, Moss Green and Coral Pink. It’s IP68 certified as well, offering water, scratch and dust resistant.
Display
It’s bezel-less to a point, even though Sony go to 78.46% screen to body ratio which is impressive. You can’t help but notice the much visible top and bottom bezel, especially the bottom bezel which only has the Sony logo on it. The ambient light sensor, selfie camera and speaker grille are at the top.
Focusing on the details on the screen, the portable 5-inch FHD IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen is crystal clear. It boasts of a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 441 pixel per inch density for immersive visuals. Features on the screen includes HDR BT.2020 Compliant, Triluminos Display and X-Reality Engine. Protecting the 3D multi-touch screen is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 dishing out scratch and water-resistant.
Hardware and Software
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 845 MSM8998 chip from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor. The processor on the Xperia XZ2 reaches a maximum clock speed of 2.7 GHz. It has a Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU graphics processor, 64-bit CPU architecture and 10nm FinFET LPP process technology.
Multitask through the most demanding apps and games with 4GB RAM that boasts of a memory speed of 1866MHz. The 64GB storage space is upgradeable up to 400GB using a memory card in the SIM slot 2. The Xperia XZ2 Compact runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with modified UI.
Camera
There’s a single 19MP rear camera on the back with f/2.0 aperture and 1.22 pixel size. The camera captures 5K resolution images and 4K videos, while the dual-LED flash will help out in dark places. The camera comes with lots of quality features to bring out the very best in every photography.
You can record videos of 2160 pixels at 30 frames per second and 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second. For selfies, there’s a 5MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and Gyro EIS for cute selfies.
Battery
Powering the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact up is a 2870mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with Qi wireless charging technology. It has no fast charging feature, but charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take more than 1.5 hours tops.
