The Sony Xperia XZ2 has officially been announced by Sony at the 2018 Mobile World Congress. According to the tech giant, the intelligent device houses the Snapdragon 845 chip from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor. The XZ2 smartphone is fast and stays fast too for a long time with 4GB of RAM.
Sony isn’t ready to let go of their single rear shooter just yet, the Xperia XZ2 sports a rear 19MP camera. The device will be available to all markets at the end of March, according to the company. But before then, let’s have a thorough review of the Xperia XZ2 smartphone.
Design
A little bit different from other Xperia devices, sporting an Aluminium Alloy overall unibody and covered in glass. Looking at the back, it’s totally different from what we are used to seeing from Sony. The rear camera is now at the middle, while the dual-tone dual-LED flash is above the camera.
If you look closely underneath the rear camera, there’s a rear fingerprint scanner for fast access to the phone and private apps. Moving to the side, it measures 11.1 mm in thickness, which is really bulky but nonetheless it weighs 198g. It’s IP68 certified and available in Deep Green, Ash Pink, Liquid Black and Liquid Silver.
Display
The XZ2 device is bezel-less to a point, achieving a 76.1% screen to body ratio. The bezels were obviously reduced, with the Sony logo sitting at the remaining bottom bezel, while the top bezel houses the selfie camera, light sensor and speaker grille. The 5.7-inch FHD+ IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen is crystal sharp with depth details.
It boasts of 2160 x 1080 pixels in resolution and 424 pixel per inch density. The multi-touch screen supports up to 10 fingers, HDR BT.2020 compliant, Triluminos Display and X-Reality Engine. Protecting the 3D glass is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 offering scratch and water-resistant as well. It has an 18:9 aspect ratio and supports Dolby Vision.
Hardware and Software
It houses the powerful Snapdragon 845 MSM8998 chip from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor clocking at 2.7 GHz. It has a 64-bit CPU architecture, 10nm FinFET LPP process technology and Adreno 630 graphics processor from Qualcomm.
Enjoy smooth and fast multitasking with 4GB RAM space available and clocks at a memory speed of 1.866 GHz. Save all files, games and movies in the 64GB internal storage space, which of course is upgradeable up to 400GB. The Xperia XZ2 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with modified user interface.
Camera
At the back, there’s a single 19MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.22 um pixel size. With the camera you can capture 5K resolution images, with photographs boasting of 5033 x 3772 pixels in dimension. The camera comes with a dual-tone dual-LED flash and other quality features like Phase Detection and the rest. Record videos of 2160 pixels at 30 frames per second and 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second. For selfies, there’s a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture that takes stunning selfies.
Battery
Powering the Sony Xperia XZ2 up is a 3180mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with Qi wireless charging and fast charging feature.

11.1mm thick and the battery is 3180mAh. Huawei can fit a 3200mAh battery for a 5″ phone 7mm thin. Sony needs to borrow a page from manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and Huawei on how to design their logic boards to save space.
