Sony actually makes a smaller version of a specific model. The Xperia XZ2 Compact is the smaller version of the Xperia XZ2.

One would have to wonder why Sony made both smartphones to be these thick. Like it’s too much for a modern day smartphone. The Sony Xperia XZ2 measures 11.1mm thick. While the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is even thicker at 12.1mm thick. The glass of the Sony Xperia XZ2 is Corning gorilla glass 5. Which is at the front and back with an aluminium frame. While on the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact only the front is made of glass. The back is pure plastic with an aluminium frame.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 at 198 grams weighs a lot heavier to the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (168 grams). Apparently, both devices are water/dust resistant with an IP68 rating. They offer different body colour variants. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is available in Liquid Silver, Liquid Black, Deep Green and Ash Pink colours. While the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is available in Black, White Silver, Moss Green and Coral Pink colours.
The rear camera of the Sony Xperia XZ2 is at the middle with the LED flash on top of it. While the fingerprint sensor is just below the rear camera. Then on the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, the rear camera is a bit towards the top-middle. With the LED flash by the left side of the camera and the fingerprint sensor below the camera.

The display sees some differences between them. The Sony Xperia XZ2 comes with a bigger 5.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. While the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact features a 5.0 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. What the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact lacks in screen size, it makes it up in display density. The Xperia XZ2 Compact has a 483 ppi density. While Xperia XZ2 features a 424 PPI density. Both smartphones have a display resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The screen of the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact is protected by Corning gorilla glass 5. With an aspect ratio of 18:9, both phones are bezel-less. With bezels seen at the top and bottom.

In numbers, there is no difference in camera quality between them. They both sports a rear camera having a resolution of 19 mega-pixel and f/2.0 aperture. While the front camera features a resolution of 5 megapixels with f/2.2 aperture.
Sony Xperia XZ2 VS Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact – Hardware and Software
They both run on the latest Snapdragon chipset. Which is Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. And an Octa-core processor which clocks at 2.7GHz. The Android 8.0 Oreo runs on both smartphones. The Xperia XZ2 Compact has a 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM. While the Xperia XZ2 has two variants in RAM size; 4 and 6GB RAM. Both models have a 64GB ROM.
Sony Xperia XZ2 VS Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact – The Battery
Sony Xperia XZ2 features a non-removable Li-Ion 3180 mAh battery. Which is slightly better than the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. The Compact features a non-removable Li-Ion 2870 mAh battery. I think Sony should have just left the Compact with the 3180 mAh battery. Hard to see a smartphone these days with a battery capacity lower than 3,000 mAh.

They both feature fast battery charging. While the Sony Xperia XZ2 also features Qi wireless charging compatibility.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact goes for around $743 (N260,000). While the Sony Xperia XZ2 goes for about $990 (N346,500). The major difference between these two phones is the battery capacity and the screen size. They both run on the same hardware. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact will give you value for money.
