StartTimes VS Gotv – Which One Should You Buy?

When it comes to paying satellites decoder, many people, especially in Africa, are looking for a cheaper and more reliable TV cable to migrate to. This is because DStv is expensive which many now associate it only for the rich. Although DStv has gained Monopoly in that aspect, however, the introduction of new TV decoder became a real threat to the South Africa company.

StartTimes was introduced in 2010 and since then, many people have migrated to it. Gotv now came out in 2014 which became a bigger threat to DStv. The company would have lost it all if Tstv that came out in 2024 was able to stand up to their promises. Although they are kicking back again, still, the best TV Satellite we have so far in Nigeria and other African countries are DStv, StarTimes and Gotv. Just as mentioned above, the DStv is expensive, so in this post, we will be comparing the StarTimes with Gotv to see which one is better.

StartTimes VS GoTV

StartTimes VS Gotv- Signal Strength

To be honest, in terms of Satellite service availability, StarTimes is the winner. I have personally use the two and I noticed that getting Gotv signal can be stressful especially if you are living in an area surrounded by hills. This, however, gives the StarTimes an edge. I even contacted Gotv agent to lay the complaint, although they promised that the issues will be ratified soon. Another thing is that Gotv signal strength is not as steady and strong like StarTimes. Although they promise to work on it, till then, I will pick StarTimes anytime.

StartTimes VS GoTV- Movies

When it comes to movies, especially Nigerian Drama series, Gotv has an edge. They offer good Drama series which is based in Nigeria. Apart from that, both the StartTimes and Gotv has quality channels that offer good and latest Nigeria movies. You will get African Magic Epic on Gotv and African Movie Channel on StarTimes. They both have Iroko TV channels, African Magic Video Zone and AMC Movie. Remember, these channels use to repeat movies until you get sick and tired of them.

Why I will go to StarTimes is because they have Star One and Star Bollywood for Indian entertainment and Star Chinese for movies from China. Both TV cable promotes Nigeria culture by featuring African Magics for Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba for the latter (Hausa has the additional Arewa 24) and Star Dadin Kowa and Farin Wata TV (for Hausa) and Orisun for the former.  StarTimes newly updated channels offer Igbo channel unlike before.

StartTimes VS GoTV- Sport

If you are a football lover, Gotv shows one live premiership match every Saturday and one Champions League and Europa match a week up till the final via Supersports, while StarTimes added new channels use to show football matches life. It was StarTimes that I used to watch the World Cup matches from the beginning to the final. So the StarTimes is still leading in this aspect as well.

StarTimes VS GoTV- Price

In terms of affordability, the StarTimes still has an edge in the sense that the TV cable comes in a different plan which includes daily, weekly and monthly, while the GoTV only support monthly subscription. With StarTimes, you can subscribe for channels using USSD if you don’t have data or a smartphone to access the internet. The advantage of GoTV is that it allows you to watch the BBN live shows on GOtv Max and Plus.

Conclusion:

As you can see, StarTimes has many advantages over GoTV which makes it a good option.
However, GoTV is also a nice and affordable cable TV to buy. If the signal is strong in your location, you should give them a chance. As for me, I will gladly choose StarTimes over GoTV for now.
