How to Stop Your iPhone 8/8 Plus or iPhone X From Downloading HDR Content

How to Stop Your iPhone 8/8 Plus or iPhone X from Downloading HDR Content.

I love watching HDR movies a lot and when I do, I love to watch them on the 4K TVs or 4K monitors. Thanks to broad luminance range and also the wider colour gamut, HDR videos provide immersive viewing experience. However, I do not really like to watch high dynamic range videos on iPhones for a couple of personal reasons. The first main reason is that iPhone displays are still not capable of getting the best of 4K content. the second reason is that I do not want the massive Dolby Vision or HDR10 files to clutter my device and as such, I chose to disable HDR videos on iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X.

If you also do not want those power HDR videos on your iPhone 8/8 Plus or iPhone X anymore so your device’s storage space will not be quickly consumed by the videos, you can jump over to keep them away. In case you every happen to change your mind later on, you can easily revert your settings to let them in again.

How to Disable HDR Video Downloads on iPhone X, iPhone 8, and 8 Plus

  1. First of all, open the Settings app on your iPhone 8/8 Plus or iPhone X.
  2. Next, scroll down the Settings screen till you see the “TV” option. Tap on it.
  3. Finally, toggle the switch beside “Download HDR Videos” to turn it off.

That’s all.

With this setting, you can now prevent HDR contents from running amuck on your iPhone 8/8 Plus or iPhone X. If you also wish to enble the feature again, you should follow the steps above and toggle the switch beside”Download HDR Videos” to turn it back on.
