Tablet PC Review – Chuwi Hi8 Pro
My series of tablet PC reviews continues, and today we shall take a look at the Chuwi Hi8 Pro tablet PC. The Hi8 Pro tablet is a pretty nice device designed by Chinese OEM Chuwi. This tablet comes with some exciting features (even for a low-end to mid-range tablet). You can easily switch between Android and Windows at the click of a button.

As usual, I’ll run through the main points of the tablet and then summarize. Keep reading.
Design
Chuwi made a nice-looking device with this tablet PC. The Hi8 Pro has a metal body with narrow bezels, and clean white stereoscopic lines to give a wonderful design. The volume rockers and the power button are on the right side of the device, a front selfie camera in the front and another at the back.
One astounding feature of the Hi8 Pro is the inclusion of a USB type C port. We know how rare manufacturers are bundling their phones with this port. The type C USB offers faster charging and faster data transfer speeds (up to 10Gbps), and most importantly you can plug into it anyway.
Memory and Storage
Here, the Chuwi Hi8 Pro is much like every average tablet PC. This is because the tablet comes with just 2GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM which seems to be the norm nowadays. The manufacturers claim that the RAM is a high speed DDR3 one that boosts performances while saving power by 20%. The 32GB ROM is an eMMC type, but can be expanded through a microSD card up to 128GB.
Operating System
For mobile working and entertainment, the Windows 10 OS can deliver on both aspects. You have access to apps, games, music and movies through the Windows Store. You can also switch to Android 5.1 Lollipop as it is pre-installed on the device
Processor
Again, the Chuwi Hi8 Pro is no different from the majority of newly released Chinese tablets. The device comes with the now ubiquitous Intel Atom X5-Z8300 Cherry Trail CPU which is 64-bit and has 4 cores. Also, an 8th Gen Intel HD graphics processor with 12 cores is included. The graphics processor allows for better and faster graphics rendering especially while watching videos or playing games.
Display
Users are afforded an 8.0 inch IPS retina diamond screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The screen supports multitouch of up to 10 points. Although the manufacturers say that the display is a retina display, the pixel density stands at 283PPI which is lower than 300PPI (the minimum for a retina display). Nevertheless, the Chuwi Hi8 Pro display is a crisp with a nice color reproduction.
Camera
There are two cameras on this device – a front selfie camera of 2MP and a rear camera of 2MP. The back camera comes with American OV drive which makes images look more realistic.
Battery
Battery capacity is 4000mAh for the Chuwi Hi8 Pro. The battery life is quite decent as you can use it for up to 3 hours on a single complete charge.

Summary
In short, the Chuwi Hi8 Pro tablet PC is one of the several low-end tablets with some nice features that make it stand out from the bunch. This is one of the tablets that come with a USB type C port and a decent screen. Getting the device would be a good deal if you don’t care for the retina display of the iPad or the sleekness of other high-end tablets.
