Tecno Phantom 6 Full Specs Review and Price in Nigeria, Kenya & Ghana

Last year when Tecno released the Tecno Phantom 5 into the Nigerian market, the praises of the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company were sung to the high heavens, and truly the device was a beast in both design and performance.

Tecno Phantom 5

Fast forward to now; though there are still some Phantom 5 loyalists, there is no denying the fact that we’ve seen far better devices (at a lower price) in 2016. So it comes as no surprise that Tecno will launch the Tecno Phantom 6 very soon, on the 25th of September in Dubai, UAE to be precise, and later in other major African markets.

As you would expect, the Tecno Phantom 6 is an upgrade to the Phantom 5, and the upgrade is a huge one, as you would found out as you read on in this post.

Tecno Phantom 6 Specifications

Display & Design

The Tecno Phantom 6 has a 5.5 inches display, the same screen size possessed by the Phantom 5. The thickness has however reduced to 6.15mm, meaning you get less bulk and more functionality. However, that could also mean a bigger hole in your pocket :D; you know what I’m saying.

Regarding design, the Tecno Phantom 6 has not strayed far away from its predecessor. It possesses the same metal body design and comes in the same colour variations as the Tecno Phantom 5.

The display makes use of in-plane switching (IPS) display technology and has a pixel resolution of 1920 * 1080 (Full HD), which is guaranteed to give you high-quality picture representation.

Memory & Performance

The Tecno Phantom 6 is fully loaded under the hood. It is powered by a Octa-core MediaTek Helio X20 Processor with a top processing speed of 2.0GHz. We finally have Tecno moving away from the use of MediaTek MT-type processors to the MediaTek Helio series, the Helio X20 in particular which saves 30% more battery life than its predecessors.

Also embedded in the SoC is a Mali-T720 GPU which uses the MP2 process to make sure graphics operations are processed faster. How fast is what I’m not sure of, because I’ve seen a lot of smartphones released in 2016 which used Mali-T720 GPUs running on the MP3 and even MP4 process, so we can only hope the one in the Phantom 6 integrates well with the CPU and performs fast enough.

The Tecno Phantom 6 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

Battery

The Tecno Phantom 6 packs a non-removable 2700mAh Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, which is a bit lower than the 3,000mAh battery capacity of the Phantom 5.

The fact that the battery is non-removable might not suit some individuals; but hey, it’s 2016, and the smartphone world is moving in that direction. You had better gear yourself up!

Connectivity

The Tecno Phantom 6 comes with a dual-SIM slot that supports 4G LTE network connectivity. This shouldn’t be much of a surprise, though, including the fact that it has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 LE A2DP and GPS with A-GPS.

The inclusion of a USB Type-C port is a social and welcome improvement, however, because this gives it USB OTG support and allows reverse charging.

My reaction when I saw the camera specifications of the Tecno Phantom 6 was WOW! 😮 . My thoughts immediately went to the public noise that came with the release of the Tecno Camon C9 with its 13MP camera and all. The social media was awash with shouts of a best camera phone and all. I just wonder what we’re going to do when the Tecno Phantom 6 is released with its amazing and clearer dual 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p@30fps video recording. Perhaps we’re going to rent microphones and loudspeakers from heaven to shout louder this time 😀 .

The front of the Tecno Phantom 6 sports a 5 MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Software and Hardware

The Tecno Phantom 6 supports a broad range of audio and video formats and comes with stereo speakers to give you that sound quality synonymous with the latest Tecno smartphones. Like the Camon C9, the Phantom 6 has an iris scanner, and the conventional sensors (Accelerometer and Proximity sensors) are included. Present also is a 3.5mm audio/headphone jack; no, Tecno is not going the Apple way 😛 anytime soon.

The Tecno Phantom 6 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow from the box with HiOS version 1.0 layered on top. The smartphone is compatible with the Tecno T-band, Tecno’s first ever smart band to allow you to live a smart life on the go.
