I love using my favourite song as the ringtone on my iPhone. This not only makes my device stand out but it also makes it more fun too.

Unfortunately, the process involved in creating a custom ringtone on an iPhone is exactly easy. However, if you are like me who wouldn’t mind going through some pain to get a result, then you would find the process okay and set a chartbuster as the ringtone of your iPhone.

How to Create Custom Ringtone from Any Song or Music Track for iPhone

  1. First off, you need to connect your iPhone to your computer.
  2. Next, launch the iTunes app on your computer.
  3. Next, click on Songs in the sidebar of the iTunes window. A list containing your music library and the songs you have synced to your iPhone will come up.
  4. Now, locate the song you wish to use as the ringtone of your iPhone.
  5. Next, you need to right click on the song you want to use and click on “Get Info.”
  6. From the dialogue box, go over to the Options tab and click on the “start” and “stop” boxes to check them.
  7. Now, enter the start and stop times you want in the song.
    • Note – Make sure that the time you start and stop times you enter must be less than 30 seconds.
  8. When you are done, click on the “OK” button to confirm.
  9. Next, go to your music library and select the song.
  10. Next up, go to the file and then select “Convert.”
  11. Click on “Create AAC Version.” This will create a duplicate song file with the same name as the song you selected.
    • Just in case you are not able to find out which song has the AAC format, you can simply right-click on a particular song and then click on “Song Info.” Next, click on File tab. Now, you will see the format of the song next to the kind label.
  12. Next up, change the file format of the song to .m4r extension. To do so, click on the song with the AAC format in your music library, right click on the song and then click on the “Show in Finder” option.
  13. Now, Finder will launch the iTunes folder and it will show you the song which is just created with .m4a extension.
  14. Next, rename the song file to a .m4r extension.
  15. Now, delete the song from iTunes but make sure to click on “Keep File.”
  16. Click on Tones.
  17. Drag and drop the song with .m4r extension from the iTunes folder to the Tones panel in iTunes.
    • Note – If you can’t find the Tones panel, you can drag and drop the song onto the “My Device” section in the sidebar. Here, a new Tones section will appear in the sidebar with the ringtones on your iPhone.
  18. If that method still doesn’t work, you can double-click on the ringtone in the Finder and play once.
  19. Close the iTunes window and reopen it.
  20. When the ringtone appears in iTunes, it will be transferred to the iPhone connected to the computer.
  21. Click on Sync.
