China’s BBK subsidiary, Vivo officially unveiled its latest smartphone today in India. If you are wondering why India, India is one of the largest emerging markets after China. The Vivo V5 has as its main highlight, a 20MP selfie camera up front. Another thing, India is made up of a populace which os very enthusiastic about selfies, especially among the youth. That apart, the Vivo V5 has under its hood a specs array that can only be said to be mid-range.

 

Design & Specification

The Vivo V5 is housed in an all-metal unibody with a matte finish at the back. There is also an engraved Vivo logo giving it a premium look but the device doesn’t really stand out. The device is not very bulky in size, having a thickness of just 7.55mm and weighing in at 154g. The device is also curved at the edges which gives it an easy-to-grip attribute.

Speaking of hardware, the Vivo V5 sports a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 720 pixels as well as 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection on top. The V5 is fired up by a 1.5GHz Octa-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 chipset, supported by a large 4GB RAM. The smartphone also features 32GB of internal storage which can be notched further upwards to 128GB via microSD.

Dilating on the cameras, the Vivo V5 sports a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash at the rear, which on testing performs well in daylight, but produces images with little noise while indoors or in poor light conditions. As earlier hinted, the device also sports a 20-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony IMX376 sensor, Moonlight Glow technology for crisp clear selfie shots, f/2.0 aperture, and 5P lens. There is also the Face Beauty 6.0 app software onboard to help tweak things up when needed.

That’s not all, the Vivo V5 crams a 3000mAh non-removable battery under its hood and there is a microUSB port for charging the device. In addition, Vivo did include a custom-built AK4376 Hi-Fi audio chipset that promises quality and satisfactory audio experience by giving a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 115dB. There is also a fingerprint sensor mounted at the front just under the display and it also functions as the home button. The On the software end, the 4G-enabled V5 boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 2.6 running on top of it. Vivo says the V5 also has a Smart Split 2.0 feature that lets users use two apps side-by-side, as well as an Eye Protection Mode that filters blue light.

The  Vivo V5 comes in just two color variants, just Crown Gold and Grey color. As for the price, Vivo has stamped a retail price of 17,980 Rupees in India ( around 1,819 Yuan, $265) on the Vivo V5. The smartphone will be available for pre-order in 22 cities all over India from tomorrow, November 16 and the device would go on sale starting from November 26.
