A latest report from Net Applications shows that Windows 10 has overtaken Windows 7 in terms of market share. As seen in December 2018, about 40 percent of online traffic monitored by Net Applications were coming from Windows 10 users. However Windows 7 traffic had fallen to 37 percent respectively.
In November, the situation was different as the figures were 38.14 and 38.89 respectively. Windows 8.1 stayed at a very low of 4.41 percent and Windows XP still holds on to about 4.45 percent of market share. Further, Windows 8 is at 1.3 percent and Windows Vista is at 0.45 percent, according to the report.
Also noted is that all versions of Windows combined were able to make up to 86.2 percent of all operating systems in use today and of course, this has not varied much from what was available in the past year. The statistics do not break up individual versions of Windows 10 which has seen seven major releases so far including the October 2018 update.
It is also important to note that these figures only apply to desktop and laptop operating systems. For mobiles and tablet OS market share, they come differently in the Net Applications reports. Yet, Windows and Android has been seen to go back and forth between the top two spots sometimes in 2024, especially at the beginning of June when Windows fell below Android for the first time in history.
Net Applications forecast is not the only one that shows how Windows 10 trounced Windows 7 in market share. StatCounter is another tool which measures analytics source, and measures market share by page hits shows that Net Applications forecast is really something to go by. For StatCounter, figures stand at 52.36 percent and 35.63 percent respectively.
But in some countries such as India, Windows 7 is still taking the lead. In that country, Android has a massive lead over Windows and that shows just how smartphone trend is catching on in India.
