Every single day, new smartphones with amazing specifications are released. The smartphones are beautiful and enticing. We always want them but there’s always a catch – the price to pay, which could be too much a times. That’s where budget smartphones come into play.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is one of such device that gives top quality at the price of little. Being one of the latest devices from Xiaomi, let’s see what it is made of.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A basically follows the usual/standard format of majority of smartphones out there. Power/lock button and volume adjusters on the right hand side, SIM and SD card slot on the left, USB port at the bottom and the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. I wasn’t really expecting any spectacular design from Xiaomi on the Redmi 5A.
Everything seem nice and intact though, except for one thing – the position of the loudspeaker. The speaker is located on the device’s rear and this will prompt users to turn their devices on screen to have the best audio experience when listening to music. Guess what this does – accumulates scratches on the screen.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with a 5.0 inch LCD touchscreen with a 720 x 1280 pixels display resolution. Interestingly, the screen is a High Definition (HD) screen. So, you know what to expect – best quality of visuals!
PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE
Being a budget smartphone, it isn’t surprising seeing the Xiaomi Redmi 5A using a Snapdragon 425 System-on-Chip and a Quad-core processor that runs at a 1.4GHz clock speed.
The Redmi 5A comes with the Android v7.1 Nougat OS, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. The SIM 2 card slot can be alternated as the SD card slot and allows a 128GB storage expansion.

CAMERA AND BATTERY
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with a 13 Megapixels camera lens on the rear as the main camera. The primary camera comes with dual LED flash lights for enough brightening under conditions of low lights.
The front camera is a 5 Megapixels camera. It is decent enough to take good selfie photos but lacks a LED flash and may not do well under low light.
There is a 3,000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery embedded in the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The battery, according to Xiaomi, will provide a talk time of up to 11 hours and a 270 hours standby period.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A was launched October 2017 and for as low as $90, you can own a unit of the device.
