DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The smartphone has a large 5.5 inches display that comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi, one of the dons of smartphone designs decided to go with a simple aesthetic on this piece. The front of the smartphone has no side bezels but bears the front camera and some in-built sensors at the top bezels while the bottom bezel houses the Android navigation buttons. The smartphone will be available in Gold and Dark Grey. Being a light smartphone, its weight is pegged at 157 g (battery inclusive) and it’s also slim at 7.7 mm thickness.
The large HD IPS LCD touchscreen has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to its name. Its resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 267 ppi pixel density controls the screen’s sharpness and clarity. Multi-touch input is supported on the smartphone. The smartphone’s display comes with a 2.5D Curved Glass and it has a 9% screen-to-body ratio.
HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND MEMORY
The smartphone features Qualcomm Snapdraon 435 MSM8940 as its chipset with an Octa core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A53 as its CPU. The 64-bit CPU uses the 28nm process technology. Addressing the graphics presentation is the Qualcomm Adreno 505 GPU. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 runs on the Android v7.1.2 Nougat OS that’s the basis for the smartphone’s MIUI9 user interface. In the memory segment, the smartphone has two variants in both the RAM and ROM. There is a 3GB RAM variant that’s accompanied with a 32GB ROM for multi-tasking roles and storage functions respectively. The other variant is a 4GB RAM that comes along with a 64GB ROM. The smartphone variants can have their internal storage extended to 256GB with a micro SD card usage.
CAMERA AND CONNECTIVITY
The smartphone’s front camera has a 16MP shooter for excellent selfie production. The camera has the f/2.0 aperture and a 76.4 degree wide angle lens. The rear camera has a 13MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture for image capturing and video recording. The rear camera has a dual-LED flash support for brightening the scene. The cellular connectivity gradient on the smartphone are 2G GSM, 3G HSDPA and 4G LTE network types.
BATTERY
A non-removable Lithium Ion 3,080mAh battery that gives a talk time of about 30 hours is present on the smartphone. There is no Quick charge technology on the smartphone to quicken the charge time.
