In this guide, we will be showing you how to use YouTube Dark mode on your Android, iOS, PC or Mac device.

Browsing through YouTube is so much fun as there a lot of videos to be watched from different content creators. Now, watching YouTube videos during the day might not be a problem as the white background might not necessarily affect your eyes but watching it at night with the white background might be idle. Not only YouTube, staring at too much white light at night or in a dark environment might not be the best thing for your eyes.

This is why many apps and sites off a way to switch to a dark or night mode in order to ease the strain on the eyes of their users who use the platform at night or in dark environments. YouTube has done the same by starting with night mode for their desktop (PC and Mac) version of YouTube which was rolled out sometime in 2024. Later, they moved on to iOS which saw the dark mode included in the YouTube app for iOS earlier this year and now Android is getting the same treatment as the feature is set to release in few weeks time.

However, we’ll be showing you just how to turn on YouTube Dark mode, regardless of the platform you’re on – Whether Android, iOS, Windows PC or Mac.

YouTube Dark Mode On Android

To access YouTube Dark Mode on Android, you’ll have to make sure you have the latest version of the YouTube app. If you don’t, head to the Google play store and update the YouTube app.

  • Open the YouTube App.
  • Tap on your Profile Picture (if you have one) at the top right corner of the app.

  • Select Settings and Choose General.

  • Toggle On the Dark Mode and Voila, the Dark Mode is activated.

To switch back to the Light/White mode, simply follow the steps above and Toggle off the Dark Mode.

YouTube Dark Mode On iOS

Make sure your YouTube app is up-to-date. If it isn’t, head to the Apple app store and get it updated.

  • Open the YouTube App.
  • Tap on your Profile Picture at the top right corner of the app.

  • Select Settings and Click on Theme and Change it from Light to Dark.

  • To switch back at a later, Follow the above steps and Change it from Dark to Light.

    YouTube Mode On Desktop (PC and Mac)

    • Simply Go to the YouTube Website. (Make sure you’re logged in)
  • Click on your Profile Picture at the top right corner of the screen and you’ll see the Dark Theme – Off from the drop-down menu.

  • Click on it and Turn it On.

  • To switch to the light/white Theme, Simply follow the above steps and turn it back off.
