With more than 45 million songs on display, Apple Music can hold its head high as one of the best music streaming services available to mankind. iOS users can find any song they search for and have it added to their library. Due to this, users are not shocked when their Apple Music library gets cluttered over time.
Music freaks like myself fall victim quickly. We usually keep jamming away to songs, not realizing that we have accumulated thousands of music tracks, most of which we even stopped listening to. At this stage, we think about starting afresh.
Luckily, Apple provides features that aid you to get this done. But they just might not pan out as you expect.
Delete Songs In Bulk On Apple Music
Mass delete is a handy option for users if you ask me. Deleting tracks that you do not intend to listen to anymore is key. Fortunately, your iOS device caters for this.
The first thing worth highlighting is that the feature is not visible inside the Music app. This is what confuses users to doubt the existence of the feature altogether. Well, i am telling you it exists and this is how to make use of it.
- Open Settings and head to General > iPhone Storage. This is where you will view all your applications and information on how much storage they take up.
- Scroll down, you will notice the Music app, click on it. You will see the information on its storage amount and the options for its management.
- Head to Recommendations, you will view Edit, click on it and you will see the option to Delete All Songs or by specific musicians.
- Click the red icon on the left to Delete All Songs, then confirm it.
If your songs are not that many you can decide to delete one by one, artist by artist, inside this menu. But if its the whole library, suit yourself.
How about the Music app? Is it possible to get rid of songs from inside it?
Delete Songs From The Music App
Like i said, you cannot mass delete tracks when you are in the Music app. But, it allows you to delete a whole playlist and album, which can be quite comfortable for those that indulge in grouping of their songs.
Imagine getting rid of an album for instance, It can be done in just a few easy steps:
- Open Library and Head to Albums.
- Locate the album that you want to get rid of and make use of 3D Touch by pressing a bit harder on the Album. A pop-up menu will be visible with several options.
- Click Delete from library and confirm.
This can be done for singers, playlists albums and individual songs. Deleting is not complicated and will not use up a large amount of your precious time even if you have a large number of songs.
Offloading The Music App
Before iOS 11 arrived, all applications could either be installed or completely removed. Alongside the release of this update, Apple dished out an important feature that caters for both options at the same time.
If you head to iPhone Storage > Music, you will view the Offload App option. What is its use? Lemme break it down. Uninstalling an app gets rid of its data and binary, but offloading removes only the app without tampering with all the data it is linked with. It will then be transferred to iPhone backup to free up the storage on the device.
This translates to all your songs being kept somewhere in your iPhone plus even your Music app icon will still remain there. As soon as you click on it, the app gets reinstalled and alongside, your data.
