Konami has announced the newest device in the slew of shrunk-down retro consoles, the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. The console has also gotten six games have been announced so far. The console is expected to be launched in Japan as the PC Engine Mini and in Europe as the PC Engine Core Grafx. The device will sport two USB ports for controllers and also comes with support for a five-way multiplayer adapter.
The games that have been announced so far for the TurboGrafx-16 Mini include R-Type, New Adventure Island, Ninja Spirit, Ys Book I & II, Dungeon Explorer and Alien Crush.
Different games have also been announced for other versions of the system so far. The PC Engine mini, for example, has already been confirmed to come with Castlevania classic Dracula X- Rondo of Blood.
Hudson is responsible for the original PC Engine while manufacturing was done by NEC. It first hit the market in Japan in 1987. The TurboGrafx-16 was then released mainly for the US in 1989. Although the PC Engine was pretty much a success in Japan, the TurboGrafx-16, on the other hand, performed underwhelmingly in the US.
One of the biggest supporters of these devices was Konami and the company ultimately purchased Hudson. This means that securing a strong lineup of software for the mini console shouldn’t be too much trouble. We do not know yet how many games the consoles will have in total, though, or how much it will cost or when it will be released either. Konami says that it will soon make that information known to the public.
