At the end of last week, Apple released two new updates. They were not expected by fans or the world. The updates were for iOS 14.4.2 and iOS 12.5.2. Apple explained that the reason for putting the updates out is the issue of security.

The updates included important security updates and they are recommended for everyone using iPhones and iPads. There are no major new features, the company announced.

The updates are also necessary in order to service the iOS devices that can not run iOS 14, the latest software version for iPhone and iPad. iOS 12.5.2 is meant for older iPhones and iPads, especially those that may never upgrade to iOS 13 or iOS 14.

Apple fixed some latest vulnerabilities and that means that users should quickly follow through in updating their devices. The kind of security issue that Apple fixed is the sort that sophisticated software attack that makes use of previously unknown or unused codes, or zero-day vulnerabilities that powerful politicians may employ in their cyber operations.

Reports claim this type of attack originated from a U.S ally and it was a counter-terrorism operation that Google thwarted. This patched software issues that malicious hackers could pick up and employ.

WebKit issue has been fixed, as Apple announced. WebKit powers Safari and other browsers that come with iPhone and iPad. Apple said processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to universal cross-site scripting.

The WebKit issue was part of a complex attack involving 11 zero-day hacks that impacted iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Google’s security team detailed the issue earlier on, and now in March, the team is following up on it.

The security issue that Apple is helping to fight has been in existence since February 2020. Google experts observed that the attacker is truly sophisticated and fast but the team did not identify who was behind the hacks.
