Youtube, the Google-owned American video-sharing website, seem not to be sleeping on their game as they plan to remain the number one video sharing and streaming platform on the internet for a long time with the recent update incorporated into the video-sharing application – a first of its kind.
Youtube have just rolled out a new feature which eases video seeking functionality for users of the Youtube application. The new feature allows users to double-tap on either the left or right side of the screen to fast forward or rewind any video by 10 seconds respectively. This just means in place of clicking and moving the time-track indicator to go back or move forward to a particular point in a video, you can now simply double tap your screen on the right or left side of your the video display screen to either fast forward or rewind any video you are watching by 10 seconds.
It is, however, worthy of note that the double-tap seeking functionality works only in the full-screen mode and is available for use upon update of the YouTube App for both iOS and Android. I’m quite of the belief that Youtube may incorporate the functionality into the non-full screen mode too – maybe… maybe not!
While in the full-screen mode on the Youtube App, users can double-tap on any portion on the left side of the display screen to go back into the video by 10 seconds.
The same principle can be applied to any part of the right aspect of the video display to seek 10 seconds forward into a video.
Albeit there have been numerous reviews and comments where some (a subtle percentage to be precise) opined that the new double tap feature is a small and insignificant update to the app, quite a large number of the Youtube App users had nothing but applauds as some tagged the new feature as a very commendable and convenient development.
The new double-tap feature will be available to all users on Android and iOS platform worldwide, although there are reports that not everyone will get the update at the same time. The iOS update, however, will not only come with the double tap feature but also-also a new “lock screen controls” for casting playback -as commonly seen in video players like VLC, MX Player, etc. Guess it’s a double package for iOS users; Android OS users can make use of a seat and make do with the “monogamous package” handed to them by Youtube (..pun intended. LOL).
