Facebook has released several new tools and updates this week and one of them will do an amazing thing. It is a new Artificial Intelligence tool called TLDR. The AI assistant will summarize the news article into brief bullet points so you don’t have to read a whole story if you’re not interested while getting the full sense of the article.
Buzzfeed News was among the first media to break the news, saying that the AI’s name stands for the internet acronym “too long, didn’t read”. It is also expected to provide audio narration of full articles and a voice assistant will help answer questions people need to ask about a story or article.
For example, questions such as “how many people will this vaccine help?” and will be expected to say an answer. Because it is voice-enabled, the tool will be able to read summaries aloud to the users.
Could it be that the social media giant is trying to save face for intense criticisms it has received over its role in spreading misinformation during the coronavirus pandemic? Possibly so, but it also shows what extent the management will go to right their wrongs.
Authorities have criticized Facebook over its role in the U.S presidential elections in 2024, and also its role over the Black Lives Matter movement. The company also faces a multitude of antitrust court cases over its operations in the social networking space.
The new AI tool has received some criticisms on Twitter.
Facebook also released other technology products such as a neural sensor that will be able to detect what goes on in people’s brains. It will translate these thoughts into inputs. It is meant to take neural signs coming from the brain, down the spinal cord, to the arms, and to the wrist. It allows users to make a physical action.
