Since Multiplay was introduced in the No Man’s Sky NEXT Update, voice chat was also added. voice chat gives you the ability to talk to other players and friends while playing the game.

For now, it seems that voice chat does not work off proximity, instead, it simply works for anyone who is connected to the same instance as you. The game, also, doesn’t have the push to talk button available for voice chat. This means that you just have an open mic and other players can hear you.

You can choose to play No Man’s Sky solo if you want or simply disable voice chat so other players can’t hear you. In the guide below, we will show you how to do both of them.

How to Edit Voice Chat Settings In No Man’s Sky

You can only enable and disable voice chat right now. You do not have the option to configure sound devices, proximity chat, push to talk or anything of such.

Although there might be changes which will be made in future updates of the game. If you wish to control your voice settings on the fly, it is recommended that you use a headphone with a mute microphone button.

If you want to enable or disable voice chat, you can do so from the Settings menu. Simply open the Settings menu by pressing the Esc key on your keyboard or the Start button on your controller. From here, select the Network & Voice option.

Turn Voice Chat on or off using this button

Now, you can hold down the Voice Chat option to alternate between on or off. If you disable the option, you will not be able to hear the other players and they will not be able to hear you. Instead, you can choose to communicate with other players using some of the in-game emotes.

Meanwhile, you can turn Network Playoff, to play solo and stop other people from being able to join your game.
