Claims have been raised from time to time that data is sent to Chinese servers without permission from the users of smartphones of Chinese manufacturers or companies that produce telephone in China. The last claim is about the Nokia brand.
Wrong software
A Finnish user who owns a Nokia 7 Plus has found that the phone is sending data to servers in China in the background. Information sent to vnet.cn, managed by state-sponsored China Telecom, includes the SIM card number, the phone’s IMEI number and location.
The user has forwarded the issue to the data protection ombudsman and then the authorities have initiated an investigation. In the first place, the Nokia 7 Plus is the version produced for China and it is thought to be sending data to the servers in China by law, but this is not true.
Afterward, according to the surveys and HMD Global, the complaint is correct. A number of Nokia 7 Plus models sold in the country accidentally used a code package for versions in China. As a result, data was sent. HMD Global has announced that it has solved the error with the update it released a while ago.
However, it is also a matter of wonder whether other Nokia phones have the same code error. If so, we can make a prediction that Nokia phones from many countries send data in China. For now, there is no explanation.
