Huawei P20 Lite VS Nokia 7 Plus – Custom UI or Android One smartphone? The Huawei P20 Lite is a stripped version of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro (first smartphone with tri-rear camera) had a score of 102 and 109 points respectively in DxOMark ratings. No other smartphone has crossed the 100 points threshold of DxOMark. While the two smartphones are doing pretty well in the high-end segment. The Huawei P20 Lite is also challenging most smartphones in the mid-range market.

The Nokia 7 Plus is another mid-range smartphone in high demand right now. The smartphone comes with no custom user interface as Nokia believes in Android pure operating system. Can the Nokia 7 Plus challenge the junior brother of the legendary Huawei P20 Pro? Let’s put both smartphones to a comparison test and find out more.

They both have their own design layout. The Huawei P20 Lite looks a lot like its senior brother the P20 Pro, with a full-screen display and top notch. The smartphone comes with a front and back glass with aluminum frame. Huawei P20 Lite feels light as it weighs 145 grams and measures 7.4 mm in thickness. While the Nokia 7 Plus is not far from what Nokia has been producing over the years. A front glass with an aluminum body (6000 series and then copper frames/edges. Unlike the Huawei P20 Lite, the Nokia 7 Plus comes in heavy, weighing 183 grams and measures 8mm in thickness.

The Huawei P20 Lite’s dual rear camera is set up at the top left corner. While for the Nokia 7 Plus, the dual rear camera is at the top middle. Both smartphone’s fingerprint sensor is mounted at the back. The Nokia 7 Plus comes with only two body color options; Black/Copper and White/Copper. The copper is for the edges and the frames of the phone. While the Huawei P20 Lite comes in three body color options; Klein Blue, Sakura Pink, and Midnight Black.

Huawei P20 Lite VS Nokia 7 Plus – The Display

Both phones are bezel-less, with the Huawei P20 Lite having a notch on the top screen. The Huawei P20 Lite’s notch houses its front camera. The P20 Lite has no bezel at the top, which allows for a 19:9 aspect ratio. While the Nokia 7 Plus with minimal top and bottom bezels has an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Nokia 7 Plus features a 6.0 inch IPS LCD touchscreen which stretches up to 77.2% screen-to-body ratio. The display of Nokia 7 Plus is protected by Corning gorilla glass 3. The display of the P20 lite features a 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution with 432 PPI density.

Huawei P20 Lite VS Nokia 7 Plus – The Camera

I was thinking with the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro having the best camera quality, the P20 Lite should dominate also in the mid-range market. But that wasn’t the case, the Nokia 7 Plus beats the P20 Lite in camera quality. The Huawei P20 Lite has a dual rear camera with a 16MP f/2.2 primary sensor and 2MP secondary sensor. The P20 Lite camera setup features phase detection autofocus and LED flash. The selfie camera isn’t bad at all, with a 16MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

While on the rear camera setup of the Nokia 7 Plus, is a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 13MP secondary sensor with f/2.6 aperture. Huawei P20 Lite VS Nokia 7 Plus – Hardware and Software

Powering the Huawei P20 Lite is the HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset carrying 4-cores at 2.36GHz and 4-cores at 1.7GHz. While the Nokia 7 Plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset which carries 4-cores at 2.2GHz and 4-cores at 1.8GHz. The Huawei P20 Lite runs on EMUI 8.0 skin with Android 8.0 Oreo. Running on pure stock Android Oreo software coupled with a strong Snapdragon 660 chipset will see the Nokia 7 Plus perform tasks faster and better. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip found in Nokia 7 Plus uses a big.LITTLE technology which helps in switching between two sets of processor cores to maximize performance and battery life. And the Snapdragon 660 chip also has integrated LTE and graphics, which the HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset doesn’t have. In terms of hardware, the Nokia 7 Plus is a clear winner.
