The Cube i7 tablet PC is the first in a range of devices from Cube to feature an Intel Core-M processor. As at the time of writing this post, there are at least three variants of the Cube i7 tablet PC. There is a 3G version with a 64GB storage and Windows 8.1/Ubuntu; there is a dual OS version, as well as a newer version having 128GB with Windows 10 and 4G connectivity. For this post, I’ll be reviewing the latest model.

The Cube i7 tablet comes in a nicely designed metallic package that gives a premium look. The device weighs 840 grams and has a thickness of 9.1mm. A turn-off on the design is the rather large bezel. Since most Windows tablets are not known for their slimness, the Cube i7 can be said to be on the average end of the thickness spectrum. The i7 features a fanless design that makes it weigh lighter than other tablets with a fan.

At the back of the device is the rear camera, the Cube and Intel logos. At the front, you can find the selfie camera, the Windows logo; while you can find the various connectivity ports and buttons on the sides.

Display

An 11.6” Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is fitted into the Cube i7. This screen size should be enough for watching videos or editing your documents.

Memory and Storage

Memory is 4GB and internal storage 128GB SSD. The 4GB RAM is sufficient for running most Windows apps. The RAM is a low powered DDR memory for optimised battery life and faster performance. Storage space is an SSD type for faster response time. There is a microSD slot for expanding the storage (up to 128GB).

Performance and Software

The Cube i7 features a 5th generation Intel Haswell Core-M 5Y10c processor manufactured using the 14nm process. Clock speed for the CPU is 1GHz and offers the advantage of low power consumption by 60%.For graphics processing, there is a 5th generation Intel HD Graphics 5300 graphics processor. The tablet supports dual 4G network as well as 3G and 2G networks. Also for connectivity, there is OTG, HDMI and Bluetooth support.

For software, the Cube i7 comes with the Windows 10 OS pre-installed. Enjoy the desktop OS experience of the Windows 10 Operating System. You can also get a docking keyboard for the full desktop experience.

Cameras and Battery

There are two cameras on either side of the i7. There’s a front 2.0MP snapper for your video chatting needs and taking selfies. At the back is a 5.0MP camera for HD video recording and other photography needs.

Battery capacity for the Cube i7 is rated at 5000mAh/7.4V. This is more than enough for running your apps for longer periods. Given the size of the screen and the battery size, one can confidently deduce that the battery life on the i7 would give longer usage times.

Final thoughts

In summary, the Cube i7 Tablet is an excellent device. It doesn’t lack in connectivity options, and it packs a large battery for increased usage. This tablet PC can compete favourably against the likes of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. However, there are newer devices that come with newer chipsets that are more efficient and faster in performance.
