Now that the Mobile World Congress 2018 is upon us, TCL has unveiled its Alcatel 3-series lineup consisting of three smartphones – Alcatel 3, Alcatel 3X and Alcatel 3V as well as Alcatel 5, Alcatel 1X and Alcatel 1C. The Alcatel 1X, the entry-level version of the six smartphones (Alcatel 1C is also a low-end) released by TCL sports the Android Oreo OS that both Alcatel 3X and Alcatel 5 didn’t get the chance of having despite these two smartphones being on the higher side. Try to get things clear, the Android Oreo OS on the Alcatel 1X is the Android Go version – a trimmed down version of Android Oreo OS. See more about the Alcatel 1X as the review progresses.
Design & Display
The smartphone, just like the others sports the plastic material in its build up. However, it has the suede and soft touch finish with a weight of 151 g. The dedicated keys (power and volume keys) take up the right side while the front camera, flash, earpiece and light sensor are found at the top bezel. Like the Alcatel 3-series, the bottom bezel lacks a tenant and also portrays a bezel-less display. Depending on the market, a fingerprint sensor could be found at the rear of the device. In other words, it means there’s a fingerprint sensor variant and a non-fingerprint sensor variant. Either of the two, a single camera, LED flash and Alcatel logo appears at the rear. The dimensions are 147.5 mm length x 70.6 mm width x 9.1 mm thickness. The color options are Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold.

Its display has a size of 5.3 inches with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The screen resolution is a low 480 x 960 pixels while its pixel density hits 203 PPI. The screen-to-body ratio of its IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is 70% while the display colors are 16 million.
Camera
There are also two variants in the rear camera setup; it’s either it’s with 8 megapixel or 13 megapixel sensor. A LED flash supports the smartphone’s camera to give brightness in low light conditions. The front camera doesn’t have a variant as it is 5 MP wherever the device gets to. It also has a LED flash to brighten selfies.
CPU, OS & Storage
MediaTek MT6739 is the specs chipset on the device, and it encloses a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 that clocks at 1.3 GHz. The GPU is the PowerVR GE8100. Software operations on the device are handled by Android Go OS. The multitasking functions are either carried out by 1 GB RAM or 2 GB RAM. Internal storage is 16 GB and it can be expanded to 32 GB with the aid of a MicroSD card.
Battery
Alcatel 1X uses a non-removable Li-Ion 2,460 mAh battery.
