Samsung, TCL, and Oppo are among the smartphone manufacturing companies that believe much in the successful future of folding phones. Apple’s Steve Wozniack was interested in foldable iPhones but the idea lied low for a while. The company has secured a few folding device patents on which nobody can assure that they will come to pass.
However, a new report from Economic Daily claims that Apple has received samples from Chinese suppliers Foxconn and New Nikko about foldable iPhones. The report says the company is still rummaging whether to make use of LOED or microLED displays for its foldable smartphones.
If microLED is picked, that will be seen as a strategic decision as that technology is still new and developing. It may change the dynamics of the manufacturing processes for Apple. The good thing about the technology is that it offers higher brightness, saturation, and power efficiency.
For now, the testing phase of the folding screens and hinges would reveal a lot about whether this technology will see the light of day. It is claimed that Samsung may supply the display, while Foxconn and Nikko will play other integral parts. Foxconn has been the largest holder of iPhone inventory may still play the most vital role in making sure the foldable iPhone gets into the hands of users.
Nikkon may take on the manufacturing of the hinges for the foldable displays. The company has been dedicated to producing hinges for MacBooks for many years and is trusted for the wealth of experience it can bring into the new endeavor.
In the past, the number of folding tests for laptops bearing was about 20,000 to 30,000, while for better specs it was 50,000. The hinges for the new foldable iPhones will be more than 100,000 actuation. We can’t say for certain what the shape and form of the new device will be. Will it mimick the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, or will it be like the Moto Razr Phone? Whatever shape and size it will be, users would a compact design at a reasonable price.
