A few days back Apple released a couple of updates for its devices which include the iPhone, the iPad, and the Apple Watch. The rollout however which was supposed to bring users more updated features and overall improvement has not gone well and has been met with massive negative feedback.
One of the issues reported by owners of the Apple Watch who received updates was that the case of bricking to their Apple watch after they installed the Watch OS 5.1. This has led to Apple pulling the plug on the Watch OS 5.1 entirely.
On October 31st, a Youtuber who goes by the name Jose Rodriguez posted a video on how to bypass the lock screen security on someone’s phone to gain access to their contact list.
In the video, he demonstrated that by asking Siri to make a phone call and switching to Facetime, intruders can exploit the new feature that allows people to add more people to a phone call and gain access to your contact list. This could be furthered exploited to gain more info on contacts via 3D touch.
The flaw, however, cannot be exploited remotely as the intruder must have to have contact with your phone to be able to exploit the flaw and gain access to your contact list.
It is advisable therefore not to leave your phone out in the open to avoid such intrusion of privacy. Apple who are yet to bring out a fix for the issue are said to be working on a solution, one that would be coming very soon.
For now, you can temporarily keep your phone safe by deactivating Siri from your lock screen. To deactivate Siri from working while your phone is locked. Simply go Settings -> Siri & Search -> Access When Locked. Once you are able to do this Sisi would no longer be accessible from the lock screen and the flaw can no longer be exploited.
