Galaxy S10 – Fingerprint scanner works despite scratches

After the show, the tests and so it is with the news about the Galaxy S10 is far from over. Even though Samsung introduced smartphones on February 20, there will always be new insights in the near future.

This may happen on the one hand through test laboratories, blogs, and other media, but also through creators. As in the current case by JerryRigEverything. A creator who takes a closer look at the resilience of emerging smartphones.

That’s how Jerry made it with the Galaxy S10 from Samsung and put the smartphone through its paces. There was hardly surprising in the daylight. Except maybe the ultrasound fingerprint scanner. Here, Jerry has scribbled the display at the fingerprint scanner’s location and checked if the scanner still works after that.

Despite the many scratches, the scanner still works flawlessly. It gets more complicated with some deeper scratches, which are supposed to simulate a display break. Because then the scanner comes to its limits and refuses the work. So you should best not drop your Galaxy S10.

Although the test, especially with the many light scratches may come a bit unrealistic, therefore, it provides good insight into the smartphone. Here you can watch Jerry’s full-length video.

The display of the Galaxy S10 is protected with a foil at the factory worldwide. Practically, other manufacturers also make and Samsung would be something really edgy thanks to Edge’s display. Samsung writes:

Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S10 comes with factory pre-installed screen protector from Samsung. This applies to all branches worldwide and to all variants of the Galaxy S10. This decision was made to enhance the overall customer experience through improved screen durability and full functionality of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

To ensure full functionality of the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 +, we strongly recommend that our carrier and retail partners wear the Samsung Screen Protector as a replacement option in stores. We can not guarantee the experience with screen protectors made of traditional glass and polyurethane materials.

Precisely because of the fact of the ultrasound fingerprint scanner, the pre-installed screen protector is not that bad, because the scanner does not work with all slides. If you wipe over the film, you can almost not distinguish in my opinion, whether it is the display or a slide. Although the film probably should not be oleophobic, in other words, smear more in practice.
