How to Fix “League of Legends Won’t Open” Issue

League of Legends remains one of the most popular games in the world with millions of gamers playing the game every month to hit Summoners Rift. The game, however, presents some issues sometimes such as the client not opening when you first launch it.

There are a few methods you can use to fix this issue. However, if they do not work, then you may have to uninstall and reinstall the client. That is the worst possible case.

In one of the recent updates of League of Legends, the cursor was upgraded into a higher definition arrow from the original hand which has been in use for 9 years.

Force Restart The League Of Legends Client

If you have tried to open League of Legends and it won’t open, the issue you could be facing is that the game is already open. Sometimes when you open games, they might have opened in the background but will not be visible.

Since the game has already launched, if you keep trying to open it again, nothing will happen. I, personally have experienced this issue a couple of times especially when trying to launch Steam games. It’s worth checking out anyway. Launch your PC’s task manager by pressing CTRL + ALT + Delete or right clicking on the taskbar.

Look for League in the task manager

Here, check to see if the game is in the process list. If you find the game, end the task. You can also check the Details tab. Once you end the task, try opening the game again. Hopefully, it should launch this time.

Run the Repair Tool

If you can access the login screen of the LeagueClient, you can run the repair tool. This tool should help you fix any issues you may be having with the game. In the top right corner of the client, click on the cog icon. This should open the client settings.

Do a full repair of the client

Another method you can use to fix this issue is to initiate Full Repair. This process might take some time. However, it will validate your League of Legends installation to ensure it is all up to date and functional. if you are facing issues booting into games or having issues with the login screen, this issue should be of great help.

Other Solutions

There are a few other solutions you can use to fix the issue. If none of these solutions works you might have to uninstall and reinstall the client.

Try running League as an administrator. Although this is not a likely fix, it sometimes helps with certain programs.

Disable any anti-virus you have installed, including Windows Defender. The client may be having issues launching because an antivirus is preventing it. If you have disabled an anti-virus and that wasn’t the issue, make sure to re-enable it once you are done.

Incompatible hardware/software. If you have never run League of Legends on your computer before, it is possible that it isn’t compatible with it. Make sure to check the game’s specifications especially in terms of OS and also make sure the version you downloaded id the right version for your PC.
