India Will Launch Chandrayaan-2 Spacecraft For Second Moon Mission

The national space agency of India, ISRO hs revealed the new spacecraft called as Chandrayaan-2 which will be used for the second Moon mission.

Indian Space Research Organization completed its first lunar mission in 2008 by launching a spacecraft called Chandrayaan-1. Now Indian is going to do this the second time by launching Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft. ISRO’s scientist aims to achieve a soft land on the Moon during the month of September 2019.

And if this second Moon mission gets successful then India will become the fourth country after the United States of America, the Soviet Union, and China to achieve this milestone.

ISRO’s new Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft has three modules – the orbiter, a lander called as Vikram and a rover known as Pragyan. According to the second Moon mission, the Indian spacecraft will land on the Moon with the aim to collect data on minerals, water and rock formation on the surface of the Moon.

All parts of the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft are homegrown except the Sixth Imaging Infra-Red Spectrometer (IIRS) of NASA. The IIRS will be a part of the orbiter.

Vikram is the 5-legged spacecraft lander which will be equipped with three instruments – an Atmosphere Probe which can be used to measure the lunar subsurface and the density, Radio Anatomy of Moon Bound Hypersensitive Ionosphere and the Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA).

Chandryaan will be launched on 15th July 2019 and will be expected to land on the Moon’s surface by 6th September 2019. The rover will be there on the Moon for 14 days and will send the collected data and images back to the earth. Chandrayaan-2 will be transported to the Sriharikota rocket launch center by the next week.
