As part of the new lineup from Apple, Apple has revealed the new iPad Pro of 2018 in October. The iPad Pro 2018 features a new design and hardware. We will be comparing the iPad Pro 2018 with the iPad Pro 2017 in this post.

iPad Pro 2018 VS iPad Pro 2017- Design Comparison

In terms of design, the iPad Pro 2018 comes in an 11-inch and 12.9-inch screen models, with different dimensions and weight. The bezels have been reduced and the tablet is now smaller than the last year model with 5.9mm thickness. The main change is in the frame. Apple has replaced the metallic back with a flat-sided metal giving the iPad a new look. The iPad Pro 2018 is available in silver and space gray, while the iPad Pro 2017 is available in gold and rose gold colors.

The iPad Pro 11 model features 2388 x 1668 display resolution, while the 12.9-inch features 2732 x 2048 screen resolution and they both has 264 pixels-per-inch density.
The iPad Pro has liquid retina display which is a fancy nice LCD screen. The iPad Pro 2017 features a home button where the fingerprint scanner is slotted, while the iPad Pro 2018 has facial recognition via Face ID to unlock the device.  Getting rid of the home button on the iPad Pro 2018 is nice and recommendable. Now navigating around the iPad will be done through gesture just like the latest iPhones from the company. It might sound like a big deal to some, but with time they will get used to it.

The iPad Pro 2018 still maintain the same sensor with its predecessor. It has a 12MP f/1.8 rear camera, which can shoot 4K video at 60fps or slow-mo in 720p at 240fps. On the front, you will still get the same front facing camera of 7MP at f/2.2. Good news, the new 2018 iPad now features TrueDepth suite of sensors you will find on the iPhone XS and X.
Meaning you will now get Portrait mode (and Animoji, and emoji) which is one of the incredible features you need in other to takes better and beautiful selfies. Other features of the camera include AR capabilities through the new Neural Engine in the iPad Pro 2018 processor.

The iPad Pro 2018 is powered by the latest octa-core A12X Bionic chip (split between four performance and four efficiency cores) with a Neural Engine. The company claims that this will deliver 2x faster graphics than its predecessor. On the battery, Apple also claims that the iPad Pro 2018 manages up to 10 hours of battery life. In terms of memory, the iPad Pro 2018 is available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options as its predecessor. As for the connectivity, the iPad Pro 2018 is now compatible with standard connectivity options like Bluetooth 5.0 tech (last year’s has Bluetooth 4.2) and up to 29 bands of Gigabit-class LTE (compared to the 25 bands in last year’s model).  You will also get a Galileo and QZSS positioning systems in addition to GPS and GLONASS.

The iPad Pro 2018 will start selling at a price of $1,549 for a 1TB WiFi-only 11-inch model and $1,749 for a 1TB WiFi-only 12.9-inch model  The iPad Pro 2017 is selling at a price of $649 for 10.5-inch.

Our Verdict:

The iPad Pro 2018 comes in a new sleek design, new chip and a revamped Apple Pencil, which will suit professionals. But the price alone is enough to empty your wallet, so the iPad Pro 2017 still remains a better option for those that don’t want to spend much on an iPad. This will depend on your wallet though.
