The Leagoo M5 Plus is one of its entry budget smartphone and it offers durability much like its predecessor with a metal body and rugged build. In case you were wondering where you heard the name Leagoo from, they are one of the official sponsors of the EPL and official partner of Tottenham Hotspur. However, like most budget devices there are some hiccups here and there so let’s take a dive into it.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The Leagoo M5 Plus is a well-built smartphone with a mix of both plastic and metal materials. The Phablet features metallic bezels and a removable back panel made of plastic. At the sides, there are dual sim slots with a TF card slot also, the top house the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro USB port at the bottom. Touch buttons are located just below the screen, a front camera and standard sensors. The fingerprint scanner is just below the single camera along with the LED flash and the speaker all at the back.
You’re greeted with a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 pixels screen with a pixel density of 267ppi which is similar to what is present in the Leagoo M5 which has a smaller screen size. The 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4.0 provides adequate protection from scratches and has a nice smooth appearance. The phones weigh about 170g which is quite on the high side considering the fact that the battery is on a low side and there is no other reason the weight can be tied to.
CPU, OS AND STORAGE
The smartphone sports a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor that clocks at 1.3GHz replacing the MT6580 model present in the M5 series. The Leagoo M5 Plus also has an ARM Mali-T720 MP2 graphics processing unit that clocks at 500MHz. In addition, the smartphone has 4G LTE connectivity which is good improvement fro the 3G connectivity of the M5 device.
The internal memory sits at 2GB while there is an internal storage capacity of 16GB along with the SoC and gives an Antutu Benchmark score of 29, 151. It runs an Android 6.0 which is, however, upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat if you wish.
BATTERY AND CAMERA
Th Leagoo M5’s battery is probably not its strong suit with a small 2500 capacity which in no way justifies its weight. The rear camera is a 13MP interpolated camera module and a front 5MP camera at the front.
