The in-thing these days are multiple cameras made for smartphones. Smartphone manufacturer Huawei has grown above the periods of dual rear camera and has now gone to the point where it has a new smartphone housing eight cameras; quad rear, quad front cameras. It is a new beginning.
As such, multiple cameras are now the norm for smartphones. In view of this, the new Samsung image sensors announced on the 30th October 2018 will serve to promote them further into 2019 and beyond. Now the image sensors will be more effective in promoting smartphones with multi-camera setup.
Another consideration is space that is available for cameras on a smartphone. Sometimes, these spaces are not well utilized for cameras but now all that too will be looked into. This is very significant, as cameras are now an important factor in distinguishing a smartphone from its peers.
These days, smartphone manufacturers are learning how to maintain smartphone sleek designs as they pack up cameras into limited spaces on the device. This is exactly where Samsung’s new sensor technology comes in to rescue manufacturers’ quest for better camera positioning.
In view of this, smartphone manufacturers should realize that Samsung’s new solution can help in addressing demand for ultra-small, high-resolution image sensors. In other words, these Samsung image sensors will offer greater design flexibility.
These sensors will be equipped with Samsung’s latest ISOCELL Plus Technology that optimizes performance for smaller dimension pixels. The technology can also enable merging four pixels into one in a bid to improve light sensitivity. The outcome can be compared to that of 12 megapixel and 8 megapixel resolutions. Additionally, there will be support for Gyro-based electronic image stabilization also.
Finally, the GD1 sensor which we wrote about in this article will feature a real-time high dynamic range feature for richer color and detail. Additionally, it is evident that these new Samsung image sensors will be in mass product in the coming months before 2018 wraps up. So, it is possible for smartphones arriving in December 2018 and beyond to be equipped with these sensors as they arrive.
Analysts await whatever beauty or performance these will bring to new smartphones as the year goes by.
