Samsung Galaxy A9 Star has been unveiled for the world to see, the device was introduced in China alongside the A9 Star Lite also known as Galaxy A6 Plus (2018) globally. This is coming after several leaks and unofficial renders of the smartphone flooded the internet.
The A9 Star is a one of a kind Galaxy smartphone, one of its highlights is the dual 24MP + 16MP shooters at the rear. There’s another 16MP front-facing camera with AI, Bixby is also on-board with support for Samsung Pay and Dolby Atmos audio. Without further ado, lets meet the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star.
Design
The A9 Star sports an aluminium alloy overall unibody, its sleek body makes it of the most attractive Galaxy smartphone released this year. The dual rear camera is now in a vertical position at the top left corner, something we don’t typically see on Samsung smartphones.
There’s a LED flash underneath the cameras, while the fingerprint scanner was pulled up a bit in a not-so flattering position. Turning over to the sides, it measures 7.6mm in thickness and weighs 191g overall. Samsung stressed the device will only be available in Black and White colors only.
Display
The massive screen on the Galaxy A9 Star displays stunning visuals no doubt, and it seems Samsung is clearly not interested in the trending notch feature. Furthermore, the screen exudes an 18.5:9 aspect ratio and stretches all the way to the sides.
The 6.28-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen should be more than enough if you’re into big screens. Plus it has a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels and 393 pixel per inch density, ensuring sharp visuals. Impressively, the screen got up to 80% of the entire front.
Hardware and Software
Running the race, is the Snapdragon 660 mid-range chip from Qualcomm, couples with an Octa-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor clocks at a fast speed of 2.2GHz with 14nm process technology. Meanwhile, the Adreno 512 graphics processor handles graphics.
There’s 4GB of RAM available to handle all your heavy apps, it has a memory speed of 1GHz as well. For storing files, the 64GB space should be enough but if it isn’t, you can upgrade up to 256GB using a memory card. The Samsung Galaxy A9 Star runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung Experience 9.0 UX.
Camera
The A9 Star comes with dual 24MP + 16MP rear shooters which is one of the highest pixels combination ever on a Samsung smartphone. The 24MP sensor has f/1.7 aperture and uses pixel binning to combine four pixels into one. While the 16MP second shooter helps with low light shooting.
Features on the cameras include phase detection autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. It shoots 4K videos @30fps. The 16MP selfie camera has f/2.0 aperture and powered by AI which enables automatic beautification.
Battery
Powering the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star is a 3700mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 2.1 hours.
