Tencent’s Game for Peace made over $70 million in May

PUBG is one of the hottest and most popular games in the market around the world. However, the game’s developer shut down the game in China a few weeks ago. Instead, the company released a replacement titled Game For Peace. As it turns out, the game is just as hot as PUBG and in May alone, the company made $70 million only from the game.

The game’s developer, Tencent had to shut down the game in China after it could no longer make money from the game. The Chinese government, in a bid to regulate gaming content, stopped the game’s developers from earning revenue from the game. As a result, the company had to shut down the title in the country. Instead, Tencent released a new game titled the Game for Peace. The new title, which is a lot more patriotic, was approved by the government. With this, the game was able to generate about $14 million in revenue in the first 72 hours of its release. As such, it isn’t coming as much of a surprise that the company made in excess of $70 million in just May from the game alone.

In fact, if you bring in PUBG that can still be played outside China along with this new Game For Peace, Tencent is said to have made a total revenue of $146 million in May from iOS and Android app stores downloads alone, according to Sensor Tower reports. These calculations do not take into account spendings on downloads from third-party stores. The Honor of Kings, another game by Tencent, managed to rake in about $125 million in revenue in the month of May.

Most players who play Game For Peace players in China are going to be old players of PUBG. Game of Peace has very similar gameplay with PUGB and Tencent even lets users migrate their old data from PUBG into the new title.
