Africa Day – M-Net to Celebrate Africa’s Cultural Diversity

MultiChoice Group is putting together and launching a pop-up movie channel to celebrate Africa Day on Tuesday 25th of May, 2021. The Group will launch M-Net Movies Afro-Cinema which will be dedicated to showcasing and celebrating contemporary African films.

However, CapitalFM reports that the channel is already available from the 21st of May to the 30th of May 2021 on Channel 198 DSTV. It means that customers with access to Premium packages across Africa are able to watch the channel. Those who make use of GOTV Plus and Max will find it on channel 29.

The channel is created to celebrate the best of African moviemakers and it will showcase Africa’s cultural diversity, as captured by the work of filmmakers all through Africa.

The African film industry has faced many challenges and there are still challenges that lie ahead. The latest showcase will also celebrate how moviemakers are winning all over Africa for several decades.

The worth of all these is seen in the many awards that filmmakers have garnered in Africa. These have launched the careers of many directors, producers, and stars, while also taking the “for us, by us” African stories.

Yolisa Phahle, MultiChoice Group CEO of General Entertainment and Connected Video, said that Africa Day is about celebrating African unity and success, as well as acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.

Africa Day is very essential because of the pandemic and what it has wrought on the lives of people globally. It has also hit the film industry hard. To this effect, Africa Day will celebrate the talent and resilience of the continent’s film industry with the launch of this festival of African films where audiences can enjoy AfroCinema from the comfort of their homes.

More than 19 movies will be featured on the channel. They include Back of the Moon, Heritage Africa, Bed of Thorns, Sew the Winter to my Skin, Joba, 94 Terror, Train of Salt and Sugar, Ensulo, and others.
