Google is launching a new update for Android TV. So, this update brings a new look to your TV. Thus, the new design will be almost identical to the Google TV software interface present in the latest Google Chromecast. The new interface updates the appearance to be on the same lines as Google TV. In addition, it adds panels for scrolling the highlighted content at the top of the menus and leaves the giant icons for more minimalist ones.
What’s new on Android TV
That said, there are still some differences between the Chromecast’s Google TV interface versus the updated Android TV. Therefore, the new menu has three main tabs- Home, to quickly access applications and channels. Apps, as a dedicated zone to find your applications. And also a new Discover tab, which offers personalized recommendations for TV shows and movies, along with trending content from Google. In the same way that we have the “For You” tab on Google TV.
On the other hand, the “For You” tab mentioned above is used as a splash screen on Google TV. And, interestingly, it shows personalized content, such as movies, series and applications, instead of showing them in one place. It also makes it easy to get content through a Library tab that Android TV doesn’t have.
In short, this is a good update and quite pleasant. And that helps bring Google’s TV platforms to a wide range of similarities. However, it is a little strange that Google TV and Android TV still exist as separate products and with different interfaces at this time. The new updated Android TV interface will start shipping today on Android TV OS devices in the US, Australia, Canada, Germany and France. In addition, we will have more countries following the same path in the coming weeks.
Finally, the features of the presented interface may be different depending on the country and we will have to keep that in mind. From my experience with one of the new Chromecast with Google TV, I can only say well. The interface is much more functional, intuitive, and simple compared to the current Android TV.
