Before delving into the specifications and features of this device, I must state that I am impressed with the consistency and hard work which Huawei is constantly putting in serving her fans and customers. This is evident in the number of smartphones the OEM releases every month of the year.
The Huawei Nova 2s is the latest off the brand’s Nova line of smartphone and it is an upgrade to the Huawei Nova 2 device. It packs amazing flagship-worthy features and comes at an equally affordable price.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
Coming in a slim, almost-screen and highly rectangular bar and in about five different body colours (Black, Blue, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold), the Huawei Nova 2s is a smartphone beauty! Even before the device was officially launched, the images that leaks and rumours feed us were pure beauty. The Nova 2s comes in a metal (aluminium) and glass body mix.
Considering that the device is a bezel-less focused smartphone, it is really awkward seeing a home button below the display. And albeit the home button doubles as the fingerprint sensor, I am still of the opinion that its existence only makes the device lengthy and bulkier. the fingerprint scanner could have been placed on the rear.
An IPS Full HD screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and a high display density of 401 pixels per inch is in charge of visual output on the device. The screen is 2.D curved and is made with a scratch resistant material which constantly helps confer a new and glossy look on the screen at all time.
PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE
The first attraction of the Huawei Nova 2s under this header is the operating system. The device packs the latest version Google’s operating system; the Android Oreo v8.0 OS. What this means is that users of the Nova 2s will enjoy features like individual notification snooze, improved file management with the revamped file manager, new settings menu, Picture-in-Picture mode, improved background restriction for battery improvement, automatic WiFi control and many more.
On the Nova 2s, Huawei uses its native HiSilicon Kirin 960 64 bit processor. The processor comes with eight Cortex-A53 cores (Octa-core); with four running at a speed of 2.36GHz and the other four, 1.7GHz.
Moving on to storage, the Nova 2s comes in two types. There is a variant of the device that ships with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM, and another that comes out-of-the-box with 6GB RAM and 64GB built-in memory.
CAMERA AND BATTERY
Another top feature of the Nova 2s as earlier highlighted here is the quad-camera set-up.
The primary shooters are the 16 Megapixels and 20 Megapixels lens on the rear. Both shooters have a F/1.8 aperture and enjoys the dual LED flash on the rear for quality image shoot under any light conditions.
On the front, the secondary shooters for taking selfies are the main 20 Megapixels and supporting 2 Megapixel lenses. The front shooters also have their front facing camera flash.
With the above features of the Nova 2s, it is only normal for the device to pack a decent battery juice with short charge time and long usage duration. Well, the Nova 2s didn’t disappoint. It packs a 3,340mAh Lithium Polymer battery with a stated standby period of up to 500 hours on 2G and 3G network connection.
The battery is non-removable but charges to full capacity within 1 hour 18 minutes from 0%.
