Find out if your Mac will be compatible with the new Mojave macOS

Apple announced new features for its operating systems on Monday (4) during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), a developer event for the company. The new MacOS Mojave arrives with news later this year, but not all handsets can be upgraded.

The new operating system for Macs will be available for devices released around the year 2012 or later. The exceptions are the Mac Pro 2010 and 2012 models that have graphics cards in metal.

So the official list is:

  • MacBook (from 2015 or later)
  • MacBook Air (mid-2012 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (mid-2012 or later)
  • Mac Mini (end of 2012 or later)
  • iMac (End of 2012 or later)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (late 2013, in addition to the models released in mid-2010 or 2012 with GPU in metal)

This means that some devices that have been upgraded to MacOS High Sierra will not be compatible with Mojave.

Stand out:

  • MacBook (end of 2009)
  • MacBook Pro (mid-2010 and 2011)
  • MacBook Air (end of 2010 and mid of 2011)
  • Mac Mini (mid-2010 and 2011)
  • iMac (end of 2009, mid-2010 and 2011)
  • Mac Pro (mid-2010 to 2012 that do not have a compatible video card)

To check your model and whether it can receive the update, go to the device settings by clicking on the Apple icon located in the upper left corner. Then select “About This Mac”. The first information displays the model and date of your device.
