Gionee Steel 3 – Review
The Steel 3 is an update to the Steel 2 from Gionee, the new device is a premium looking smartphone. Steel 3 looks like a bag of money but retails for just a token with the average specs. Gionee smartphones are affordable and classy on the outside and the Steel 3 didn’t disappoint. What’s so special about the Gionee Steel 3? Lets have a look.
Design
The Steel 3 is available in only Gold, because c’mon, what other color could do justice to its shinning body? Its covered in exquisite gold metal with different textures and feel to it. Gionee Steel 3 is definitely a pleasure to behold and hold, with a very smooth shinning back.Athough the top corner where the rear camera and LED Flash sits is not as smooth as the middle.
It has some attractive lines with the rear camera and LED Flash at the extreme left. The Gionee logo and speaker is at the bottom corner in that order. It’s quite fat by the sides, measuring 8.5mm in thickness. Surprisingly it weighs just 144.7g, even with the metal body and 4000mAh battery.
Display
Gionee Steel 3 sports a FullView display alright with extremely narrow bezels. While another Gionee logo sits at the bottom bezel, which i think is utterly useless and annoying. They could have also put the logo at the top and by the sides as well. So we will know the smartphone is from Gionee no doubt.

The 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen on the Steel 3 is pretty standard with 720 x 1440 pixels in resolution. Its typical midrange screen boasts of 293 pixel per inch density and 77% screen to body ratio. Furthermore, the screen is not too bad for its price, as it offers nice visuals.
Hardware and Software
The brain behind the Steel 3 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset with Octa-core processor clocking at 1.4 GHz. The Qualcomm Adreno 308 processing unit is in charge of everything graphics here. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and its too early to tell if it will get the Oreo update.
Comes with 3GB of RAM space for heavy multitasking and fast app launching. Store everything including files, apps and games on 32GB storage which of course is upgradeable up to 256GB using microSD.
Camera
Equipped with 8MP selfie camera that captures amazing selfies, Gionee doesn’t play with their selfie camera. In the past we have seen the company going the extra mile for the selfie camera on their smartphones. There’s another 8MP camera at the back as well which takes 3K resolution images. Meaning you should be able to capture stunning photographs up to 3264 x 2448 pixels. With lots of features to choose from to make the photo quality brilliant and sharp.
Battery
Gionee Steel 3 lasts long too with 4000mAh Li-Po battery that is Non-removable. It comes with fast charging feature but the charging duration can’t be ascertained at this time.
