Google has expanded its Advanced Protection program for sensitive accounts so that standard iOS apps can also access Gmail, calendar, and contacts. Google introduced the program in October.
Because of the change, iOS apps like Mail, Contacts, and Calendar have access to the corresponding data in the Google account that has Advanced Protection enabled. That program provides access to that data for third-party apps. Then Google introduced the program in October, and was one of the limitations of iOS users that their default apps more without access to Gmail, for example. That restriction is no longer there.
Google writes that iOS users receive instructions on how to log in as soon as they give their standard applications access to an account with Advanced Protection. According to Google, that program is intended for people with sensitive information in their accounts, such as activists, journalists, and politicians. To participate in the program, a user must have two hardware keys that serve as a two-stage authentication device.
The search giant also says that it will take additional measures for identity verification at the moment that someone wants to restore access to their account in the program, in order to prevent unauthorized access.
