How to change Wi-Fi on Fire TV Stick without remote control

Streaming Sticks require Wi-Fi to be able to play multimedia content. Without that, Fire TV Stick or any other streaming device is practically useless. Another thing that is important for Fire TV is its remote control. Since it is not equipped with physical buttons on the traditional set top box, the remote control also plays an important role.

If you want to browse on Fire TV Stick, play a video or change settings, including Wi-Fi, everything is only possible with the remote control. What happens if the remote control is lost? How will you change Wi-Fi without it?

Are you in a similar situation? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. We offer you some ways to change the Wi-Fi network to Fire TV Stick without its remote control.

Use the Fire TV app

If your remote control is not at hand or you have lost it, you may think it is time to buy a new remote control or even Fire TV Stick. However, this is not your case, you can control Fire TV with its apps available on Android and iOS. The only requirement is to share the same Wi-Fi network.

So, if you still have access to the old Wi-Fi and want to change Wi-Fi on Fire TV without remote control, you need to use the app.

Install the app from the link below. Once installed, Fire TV will be shown in the app. Touch it.

Now use the app to browse the Fire TV Stick. Go to Settings> Network. Here connect to a different network.

TIP:  If the network is not visible, click View all networks.

The previous method required you to be on the same Wi-Fi network. What happens if you travel and you have forgotten the remote control at home? Is Fire TV Stick unusable? No. You can still control it using these three methods.

IT Trick with an identical Hotspot

When you are in a hotel or in a place where you have a different Wi-Fi network and the Fire TV remote control is not available, you cannot change the Wi-Fi even with the app since it is registered with the old Wifi.

So the trick is to configure the Fire TV Stick and the app on the same network. Here we will combine the method we saw above with a new trick.

For this, we will connect Fire TV Stick to a new Wi-Fi with the same SSID and the same password as the old network. This will make him believe that it is the old network and will automatically connect. You can then use the app to change Wi-Fi.

Here are the steps in detail:

NOTE:  Two phones are required for the procedure.

Step 1– With the first phone, you need to create a hotspot network with the same Wi-Fi credentials as the previous network registered with Fire TV Stick.

Step 2: Turn on the TV. Now Fire TV will connect to the hotspot.

Step 3: Install the Fire TV app on the second phone and connect it to the newly created hotspot.

Step 4: Now that Fire TV and the app are on the same Wi-Fi, use the Fire TV app to access Settings> Network to update Wi-Fi.

Step 5- After connecting Fire TV to the new Wi-Fi network, turn off the hotspot on the phone. Then connect the first phone to the new Wi-Fi network and use the Fire TV app to control and browse the Fire TV Stick.

Use another TV Fire remote control

If your friend or family member has Fire TV Stick, you can use the remote control to change the Wi-Fi. All you have to do is pair the remote control by pressing the Home button for 20-40 seconds until the association confirmation message appears.

Once it has been properly paired, the Wi-Fi changes as mentioned before. Then use the app to browse on Fire TV Stick without the remote control.

Use the TV remote control

Many users do not know that they can control the Fire TV Stick with the TV remote control and the TV with the Fire TV Stick Remote. If you are surprised to know, it meets the HDMI-CEC functionality. The main idea behind this feature is to allow users to control their TV and HDMI devices connected with a single remote control.

So, if your TV supports HDMI-CEC, you can use its normal remote control to control the Fire TV Stick and change the Wi-Fi. For this, first of all, you need to enable the HDMI-CEC setting on the TV. Since brands call the function with different names and is present in different positions, check the TV manually to find the settings.

Bonus Tip- Connect to the hidden Wi-Fi network

Many use a hidden Wi-Fi network to connect their devices. To connect Fire TV Stick to such a network, go to Settings> Network. Here scroll down and click Join Other Network. Then enter the network details.

TIP: You can use the Fire TV app to easily type using your phone.

It is true that one understands the importance of a thing only when it is lost. Losing a remote control or forgetting it at home can be quite painful. Fortunately, you can use the methods described above to control Fire TV Stick without a remote control.
